Armenian GDP increased by 9.6% in January-October 2001

Yerevan, November 23, 2001. (CNA). Armenian GDP amounted at 109.6% in January-October 2001 regarding the corresponding period of the last year. Such growth was not registered since Armenian independence declaration, the Armenian President Robert Kocharian said. The growth amounted at 6.9% in the industry, in agriculture - at 11.5%, export - 11%. The president considers the indexes to have been better, but Armenia was affected by the world economic recession after the tragic events of September 11 in the US. -OK-

Yes but u dont believe everything u read do u? the official unemployment rate stated recently to be at 10% but realistically speaking unemployment in armenia is as big as 30-40 percent. and where has the GDP growth came from. Reading recently from groong that FDI has fallen some what 35% and despite this growth the people still see no future in their homeland and the current governemnt, recent polls conductied from a sample of 100K people, 95% desire president's impeachment. at the end of the day GDP is not the only indicator of development and it will wrong to summerise armenia's development by their GDP figures.

i myself dont see any good sign for Armenia not for another 10 years, Corruption is still very big, privatisation is at a very slow pace, revenue from Tax are basically pennies! and most importantly the future of Artsax.

I dont think impeachment is a good idea, whoever becomes president is going to 'eat'. It is my belief that after a certain period of time Armenian politicians have enough to 'eat' and actually start contributing, after all they cant 'eat' forever. An impeachment will make things worse and only add to the confusion and insecurity.

 

Note: I am not a supporter of Khocharian, in fact I think it is a bad idea of having someone from Artsakh running Armenia.

I agree that disrupting the government would not be productive at all. I also think that Kocharian has turned out to be a disappointment in many ways. However, I don't think his being from Artsakh has anything to do with it. We saw what happened with the "native" politicians such as Ter Petrossian. Yuck. Where is the alternative? Who is the knight in shining armour? Let's face it; Armenia currently lacks the societal dynamics to "snap out of it". So we'll wait until they slowly stumble out of their current rot. If the rest of the society has too much inertia the individual in the president's office hardly matters unless he is someone with a small mind but an inflated ego. Now that would be a disaster; and Armenia had that before in her first president. Unless we get the equivalent of Ataturk, which is an unlikely, freak event that occurs very rarely anywhere. And we haven't had much "luck" since Katch Nazar .

who would repalce him if he leaves???

i don't see anyone ready for that possition.

 

Ter-Petrosian was a good leader at the beginning, but the taste of leader changed him, many more others as well. those who didn't change got out of the game.
