We cannot compare the Armenians living in Armenia with the Armenians who were forcibly dispersed around the world,” said Merkel adding that those in Armenia are living under difficult circumstances and urged Erdogan to open the border.“You are forcing us to accept something we have not done,” said Erdogan, denying the Armenian Genocide again and claiming that the entire Turkish archives are open to the world.“Do not do injustice against Turkey,” Erdogan urged Merkel.Prior to his visit to Germany, a member of the German parliament urged Erdogan to end the denial of the Armenian Genocide and apologize for the crime, reported the Bild newspaper.Erika Stenbach, a member of Merkel’s party, said: “I urge Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan to stop denying the genocide of Armenians and Assyrians by the Young Turk government of the Ottoman Empire 99 years ago,” adding that it is high time for Turkey to apologize to the descendants of the victims of the first genocide of the 20th century.“It is Erdogan’s duty to face the truth nearly 100 years after that terrible crime and ensure that the Turkish textbooks do not distort this part of Turkish history,” said Steinbach. Yervant1
ERDOGAN-MERKEL AWKWARD CONVERSATION ON ARMENIAN GENOCIDELragir.amPolitics - Friday, 07 February 2014, 17:51The Hyurriyet has reported details of the recent Erdogan-Merkelmeeting. The newspaper has learned that the Turkish and German leadersdiscussed Erdogan's nomination in the upcoming presidential elections,as well as the Armenian Genocide.Erdogan hesitated for a moment after Merkel's question about electionsand Merkel said in a joke: "I promise not to tell anyone."Nevertheless, Erdogan did not give a specific answer, noting: "At themoment the March 30 local elections are on our agenda. We will focuson the other issue [presidential elections] as soon as it comes upon the agenda."The Armenian genocide was not left out of the agenda as well, which, according to the Hyurriyet, caused some coldness between the parties ofthe meeting. Erdogan who brought up the issue the first said they mustbe sensitive about their budget allocations for the 100th anniversaryof the developments of 1915 and called her to warn her group. Merkelretorted that Germany is a democracy and they cannot interfere whileTurkey should face up to the history. The Armenians living in Armeniamust not be identified with the Armenians who were forced to spreadacross different countries of the world. Armenians are in a difficultsituation, and Turkey must open the border with Armenia.Erdogan echoed that Merkel wants to force them admit something theyhave not done, adding that they have opened up their archives tohistorians all over the world and called them to come over and studybut nobody came.- See more at:http://www.lragir.am/index/eng/0/politics/view/31882#sthash.w53V3Upp.dpuf

Yervant1
Who else have Armenian origin? Merkel: There Are Different ArmeniansNaira Hayrumyan, Political CommentatorComments - Saturday, 08 February 2014, 17:05As 2015, "X hour" for Turkey, is coming up, increasingly morepoliticians of world scale say that recognition of the genocide isinevitable. Quite recently, Bashar Assad compared what is happeningnow in Syria with the genocide in Ottoman Turkey. The Kurdish leaderAbdullah Ocalan addressed a letter to the Armenians about thegenocide.. the French President Francois Hollande stated in Ankarathat Turkey will have to face up to its history. However, what the German Chancellor Angela Merkel told the TurkishPrime Minister Erdogan is probably the most symptomatic of all. TheChancellor of Germany, a country which has had to pay for theHolocaust for many decades, has urged Turkey to admit to its history.Erdogan said that they should not be responsible for what is not done. And then Merkel said sacramental phrase. According to the TurkishHyurriyet, Merkel noted that the Armenians living in Armenia shouldnot be identified with Armenians scattered around the world. "Turkeyshould open its border with Armenia," Merkel said. This sacramental phrase outlined two "Armenian fronts" against Turkey,Armenia and the Diaspora. And the international community, apparently, intends to support both fronts, regardless of the will of the Armeniangovernment which works on neither of these fronts. The international community will definitely support the claims of theArmenians worldwide who have been of their historical homeland andproperty due to the genocide. However, the international communitywill also demand that Turkey open its border with Armenia to opencommunication in our vast region.Judging by the expression on the face of Turkish leaders, they havereconciled with the thought of recognition of the genocide and arethinking about choosing the least painful way. Europe pushes Turkey toopen the border with Armenia and recognize the genocide as a conditionof rapprochement with Turkey. Turkey may not have territorial lossesbut it will have major political losses and appear on the back seat ofpolitics. Failure to meet these conditions will completely marginalizeTurkey. In Turkey they are already talking about a broad international frontagainst Turkey, including not only the western but also the "Shiitegreen area". Erdogan's party will resist if he wins the localelections on March 30 and the presidential election in August. It isnot going to be easy, and the Armenian factor will play a significantrole. It is not a coincidence that Erdogan's key opponent FetullahaGulen is said to have an Armenian origin.During the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Sochi Sargsyan satnext to Erdogan who had considered it his duty to come to Russia. Mostprobably, it had been intended to arrange a private talk between them.Apparently, there was no conversation because the Armenians living inArmenia and those scattered around the world are different. And thegoals of the Armenians worldwide are not always the targets of theArmenian leadership.- See more at: http://www.lragir.am/index/eng/0/comments/view/31891#sthash.BRadoMe8.dpuf
man
I think Germans are being fed up with Muslim Turks in their country, they have millions Turks in Germany most unassimilated and unpleasant to deal with by Germans, and Germans started to tell it like it is. Here in this video we see another German woman starts protesting when a Muslim Turk starts praying loud in a church:http://youtu.be/BQ-woo76df0

man
I had no intention of 'spamming' as you say. To me it did not look a spam but it was related to the subject of how the sentiments in Germany are turning against muslim Turkey in favor of Armenians. This is the first time that Merkel openly and publicly admonished a Turkish leader to acknowledge our Genocide, why this chance? First the mood currently in Germany is against Muslim Turks who mostly refuse to assimilate into German society and a German political party is considering giving then dual citizenship as a solution (up to now immigrant Turks to Germany are not given German citizenship and theoretically can be evacuated any time). Then the other reason for this pro-Armenian stand by the Germany and EU is the Custom Union of Armenia with Russia and rejection of the Association with EU. Clearly EU want nullification of this Custom Union and return of Armenia into EU, hence the change in German attitude. But rest at peace Yervant1, I WILL NO LONGER MAKE ANY COMMENTS ON YOUR POSTS. onjig
Would it be safe to have an open border to our western land?
Yervant1
Overall it would be beneficial to have the border open! Now the trade is done through Georgia with outside world and it's a longer route, don't forget that Europeans can go to Asia with a shorter route through Armenia, also rail system will generate a good transit income which is much needed. I know some will say that turkish products will fill Armenia, but those products are coming in through Georgia with a higher price tag already. I doubt that the Kurdish population will come to Armenia in vast numbers if the border opens up.

Yervant1
OPEN BORDER WITH TURKEY CONTAINS MORE RISKS THAN BENEFITS FOR ARMENIA -EXPERTYEREVAN, February 21. / ARKA /. The opening of the Armenian-Turkishborder will hardly bring economic or political benefits to Armenia, head of Noravank think-tank in Yerevan, Gagik Harutyunyan, said today."When considering the probability that Turkey may open the borderwith Armenia we should carefully evaluate all the risks and possiblebenefits. Our think-tank conducted such an analysis and the findingssuggest that the risks are bigger than potential economic benefits,"he said.He said according to experts, Armenia can export to Turkey some 50types of products, while Turkey is already selling about 500 typesof goods in Armenia. As for the political benefits, Harurtunyan said Turkey and Azerbaijanwill not abandon the policy of "two states, one nation" and theopening of borders will not resolve the Karabakh conflict and reducethe danger of renewed hostilities.Relations between Armenia and Turkey remain tense because of Ankara'sbiased stance on the Karabakh conflict and its painful reaction toArmenia's efforts to obtain worldwide recognition of the ArmenianGenocide. -0-- See more at:http://arka.am/en/news/politics/open_border_with_turkey_contains_more_risks_than_benefits_for_armenia_expert_/#sthash.kXuJylH0.dpuf
