VERY INTERESTING POSITION

On December 5 the government approved allocation of 789 million drams
to buy 69 cars for 24 public agencies, including the parliament. This
dram amount is equal to about 2 million US dollars.

The Armenian Time reported that this amount is enough to buy 207
apartments for the families who have been homeless since the earthquake
in Gyumri in 1988. And the cars are mostly Toyotas.

It is well known that over the past few years salaries and pensions
were paid on loans issued by the World Bank and the IMF. And the
budget is a holy thing that is emptying all the time, hardly covering
the government's needs. Not a cent from the budget should be spent
on people. Tax agents are asking businessmen to pay taxes in advance
to be able to make the government's both ends meet.

Besides, the high-ranking officials must be rewarded for surrendering
the sovereignty of Armenia successfully. And the number of cars - 69
- is highly symbolic. Apparently, further numbers and facts relating
to the activities of the government will contain such symbolism.
