Strange Feeling

People, do you have the same feeling, when you enter the church you feel something inside you really shivering or some kind of moving, and don't feel comfortable at all. Every time this happens to me. And also i asked couple of my friends they also feel the same. Its like something inside you is afraid of church...

That IS strange...I've never heard someone say that before. I get just the opposite feeling--I love the light shining through the windows, the high ceilings, the ornate decorations, the soft echo of people's feet and voices, etc.

With thousands of different churches in the world, you should find the one that when you walk in, you feel peaceful and "at home".

Hey, which one of us is the religious one here???

Mike,

I know exactly what you mean. Usually I go to church real early in the morning or in the evening, when there are no people around (or just a few). I like to sit on the bench and just relax. Once I even fell asleep in church and had a real strange dream ...

But nothing can compare to the way I felt when I entered the ancient churches in Armenia. I felt a presence I had not really felt before. It was very calming, but strange at the same time. I felt at peace with myself.

A

Whenever I enter a Church , I have a mixed feeling : One of soul culmination and One of guilt.

The safest place and the most soul elevating place for me , is the Church , because I find myself in a place where the presence of God is stronger ( or have the notion of ) and where I can place my soul in His hands and ask for help, ask for forgiveness and thank Him for the fortunes of our lives.

The euphoria that surrounds me is well described by the following poem/song.

Yegeghetsin Haygagan

Tzntavayrn e hokvouys

Inchbes Karayr m@ @ntartsag

Barz ou khoroung

Mout ou louys

Ir kavitov lousngal

Ir layn pemov ou heroun

Ganknatz ir lour khoranov

Vor gartzes navm@ e tz@poum

The English translation:

The Armenian Church

Is the birthplace of my soul

As a wide cave

Simple and deep

Dark and light……………………..

The guilt (the pro-paternal guilt of Adam) , is present , because although we are trying to be correct and righteous , we always deviate from God . I believe that those who are near to God , feel their shortcomings.

After all we are only humans! It’s not wrong to err , but it is wrong to not to accept your errors!

lol..when i enter our local church here i give the ter-hayr a really dirty look (namely because i feel like they're tainting the church by actually SELLING candles--i think i've mentioned this before--annoys the hell out of me)...after which i go into a corner, light the candles, sit down (just like aneta, i go when there's no one there--perhaps on a weekday afternoon), sit for hours sometimes, thinking.....usually it's a calming feeling, although nothing special....this last time i had to run out of there though...weighed down on me for some reason...

lol, aneta, if you ever see another chick sitting there with no one around, that's probably me...say hi.

unfortunately i've forgotten the feeling i had when i'd go to church in armenia...which wasn't too often incidentally...my mom took me sometimes...to surp sarkis...it was her favorite church in all of yerevan...

(deep sigh)

To be honest i dont feel anything when i enter English churches... they are like empty... i haven't been to armenian church in london though... Kazza have you?

But when i enter Armenian church its like you enter a very holy place, in your soul you fell this holiness. The feeling is great, is like all bad and eveil things left outside. Maybe i have this feeling because i sin too much... well... the God is the judge for me! Day in day out my faith is growing... When i was like 17... i didn't believe in God at all. When i went to England my host family were very religous and red Bible everyday and staff. I was trying to tell them: what is the point of it. Teach the kids some maths or something instead of reading bible.

And the last day when i left they gave me a gift... English bible... and on the back they wrote: Artur, anything in this world can happen and one day... who knows you might believe in God as well.

So it happned ::)))

Wow... i am too sleepy... too much sensitive things... :)

God bless you All!

Gayush, come to Armenia this summer. Its 1700 anniversary of christianity. I'll be there in June. I'll meet you at airport, show you our churches and staff. Come...

Don't forget there is a friend in Armenia for you...

No Artur Jan I han't been to Armenian church in London. Dunno if they are any. I will find out. Anyway jan that must be just superstition that you feel scared in a church because the church is nothing to be frightened of. Did your Grandparents or relatives tell you any scary stories about it when you were little? I think that is really nice about the bible! I thought you were rleigious from an early age!

But in a way I suppose the strange feeling can also be explained tha you tkae this seriously

Raffia jan a lot of people say they feel giulty when walking in to churches, it's quite common. But what have YOU got to feel guilty about?

But you are right: the people who do wrong dont realise it as well as the people who DONT do very many wrongs, they work harder to work on themselves. But you put it in the context of being, close to god.

Since I don't go to church, the only time I see our Der-Hayr is at the dentist's office!!! My uncle and cousin are my dentists, and the Der-Hayr is one of their patients. He and I must be on the same 6-month checkup schedule.

Kazza, you got me wrong. The feeling is not of being afraid, the feeling is being holy and like something inside me is afraid of church. I don't know what it is, but i feel really released when i pray and when i go out i feel like i am clean now. :) Well, enough of personal things i guess.

My grandmother just pointed out to me that this isn't just any Der-Hayr, but the Western Diocese Primate Vatche Hovsepian. I'd better be extra polite to him next time, in case I need him someday...
