Michael Vardanov, also known as: Mikhail Vartanov, born on February 21st, 1937. Director, writer and cinematographer. Graduated from a prestige film school VGIK in Moscow in 1966. Remarkably, his diploma film won the Golden Antilope Award that same year. Soviet government aggressively persecuted Vardanov for his close friendship with genius director Sergei Parajanov. For several years Michael Vardanov was forbidden to make films especially as director and was forced to work frequently as cinematographer and artist to survive. Looking back many years later Vardanov said: "...basically, at the age of 50, I only managed to make a 50 minute film that was truly my own..."
