khodja
Dear Lady of Grace, I once made a comment in this forum that "When the Turks annihilated the Armenians, they killed the goose that laid the golden eggs". Some of the members of this forum, who know nothing of European folk tales, became incensed. They thought that what I was stating was about Armenians having sex. What I meant was that the Armenians were a integral part of Turkish commerce and that the Turkish economy would be much stronger today had the Armenians not been eliminated. Misunderstanding come when Armenians have different socialization processes.
khodja
I see now that because I approached the Armenian Genocide from an analytical perspective and not an emotional and hysterical one, that you assume that I am not Armenian. FYI both my grandfathers, my aunts, my uncles and my parents numerous cousins "disappeared" both in the Armenian vilayets and in Constantinople. A number of the group rounded up on April 24, 1915 were related to my parents. I guess unless one becomes emotional, one is not considered Armenian. Cilician
I think all Armenian celebrities should given a free trip to Armenia like that. There is good publicity surrounding it, and in the end other fringe benefits could emerge. Influences on their work, associations, desire to return, desire to help, etc, etc. It is just a worthwhile investment.
khodja
Yes, For the cost of a few thousand dollars, the Armenian tourist industry would get much publicity. Perhaps Agassi, Nalbandian, Mike Connors, Cher, Charles Aznavour, Eric Boghosian, Sylvie Vartan, Angela Martin, Davis Hedison, System of a Down, etc. How about an Armenian national tribute to Armenian celebrities in the West. Rouben Mamoulian. Even those who are not considered in the national consciousness. The late Arlene Francis Kazanjian Gabel, for example. Did you all know that Gregory Peck's paternal grandfather was an Armenian Catholic whose roots were in Britain?

America-Hye
The late John Sarkissian, her Dad was 100% Armenian from a Fresno farming family. Her Mom is part Swedish, part French and part Cherokee "Indian." You have to see Cher's pictures when she was a kid and from when she first "made it big" with Sonny. Before her plastic surgeries she looked like a typical Armenian. Buy her latest autobiographical book. You will see the pictures of her handsome Armenian Dad in his youth and pictures of her childhood.
sev-mard
In her younger pictures she 'so' looks Armenian. I didn't realize she had surgery until I saw those younger pictures.
hyebruin
i remember first time i saw her i though to myself!! my gosh she looks just like my armenian school teachers from waaaaay back!--and i didn't know for sure if she was armenian at that point, but i was not surprised to find out that she was...it's sad though, how she was not happy about her looks and wanted to be "blond" and have northern european features...there's a lot of beautiful armenian and middle eastern women...but i guess growing up where she did, the standard of beauty was blond hair, blue eyes and a little perked up nose! Armo77
I wish Cher would be more open about her Armenian Heritage.. It seems like only us Armenians are knowledgeable about her being Armenian. Anytime I ask a non-Armenian what ethnicity they think Cher is.. they say "Italian". SirumemKez20
omg, I know I wish she was more open about it, I personally don't like her music, but I heard she donated money to Armenia that's pretty generous of her.

koko
so what if she's only been there once? There are people, armenians, that has never visited their homeland <_< There is more about Cher , and her visit too armenia, in the book "Armenian Women of the Stage". She helped armenians and armenia quite a great deal when she was there! Edited February 2, 2004 by koko
Arpa
From Hye Tert, the internet site of PolsaHays. As always, take it with a grain of salt. No where below I see a commitment or a promise, only a wish. Is wishful thinking and exclusively Armenian disease? ========= CHER TO VISIT HER HOMELAND AGAIN panarmenian yerevan 29.6.2004 American singer and actress Cher (Cherilyn Sarkisian), who has recently come on tour to Moscow, was present at the reception organized in her honor by the Armenian community in Ararat-Hayat hotel on June 22. During the reception Cher was accompanied by chairman of the Union of Armenians of Russia Ara Abrahamian. As reported by Izvetiya Russian newspaper, Armenian Ambassador to Russia Armen Smbatian, who immediately invited the singer to visit her historical homeland, was introduced to Cher. "I was there. There are so many people in Armenia who look like me! It's the dearest I have", answered the singer promising to come as soon as a possibility occurs. The exact terms of the visit are being negotiated at present. The singer was presented with a picture – her own portrait in an Armenian national costume and brandy from the valley of Ararat. "My father is from there", she said. An hour later the singer left the reception. The guests, among whom were deputy to chairman of the council of directors of Uniastrum Bank Gagik Zakarian, Argentina's Ambassador, Senator Oganez Ohanian, President of Association of Russian Banks Garegin Tosunian, Troika Dialogue company President Ruben Vardanian, chairman of the Council of Directors of Cigar Clan Artashes Shirikian, ATA Motors Company President Levon Hairapetian, film director Karen Shahnazarov saw Cher with applause. Twilight Bark
PolsaHays. Dear Arpa, I think using a transliteration that reflects the pronunciation by the locals (Bolis) would be more appropriate.
