EXHIBITION DEDICATED TO 100TH BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY OF TATUL ALTUNIAN

OPENED IN ARCHIVE AGENCY

 

YEREVAN, June 28 (Noyan Tapan). An exhibition of documents and photos

presenting the life and activities of Tatul Altunian, an outstanding

conductor-composer, opened at the Archive Agency of Armenia within

the framework of arangements dedicated to the 100th anniversary of

his birthday. According to Amatuni Virabian, the Director of the

Agency, the personal archives of Altunian - the 550 units, including

his photos, private and creative documents, the certifications of the

titles of people's artist of Armenia and the USSR and other personal

belongings - were transferred to the State Archieve of Documents of

Art, Literature and Press 20 years ago. He mentioned that the

personal archive of Altunian wasn't studied up to day, and it is

presented for the first time to the community, presenting the life

and activities of the tireless worker of the Armenian musical art.

Composer Ruben Altunian, the son of Tatul Altunian, presented the

"Treatments of Armenian Folk Songs" book to the State Archive of

Documents of Art, Literature and Press. 19 best treatments of

Armenian folk songs, the scores of which were first presented in

instrumental accompaniment, are included in the book.

TATUL ALTUNIAN

 

Tatul Tigrani Altunian, born in Adana Oct. 2, 1901, died in Erevan 1973.

Choirmaster, teacher and musicologist. Ended up in Erevan during the Genocide.

Recipient of many awards and prizes. Graduate of the Erevan and Leningrad

conservatories. Trained under the tutelage of Romanos Melikian and Spiridon Melikian.

During 1935-36 he reformed and conducted the choir of the Yerevan Conservatory.

He was the founder and conductor of the Hayastani Petakan Yergchakhoumb (1937), and

the Haykakan Zhoghovrdakan Ergi ev Pari Ansamble. He was a master of choral

music, he revived and popularized many works of our great composers, the likes of

Garun A, Kali Yerg, Sona Yar, Andzrevn Ekav and Qaghhan, by Komitas. Gatzeq Teseq,

Zinch ou Zinch by Kara Murza. Tkhkonda by S. Melikian.

He has been a teacher and director of poplular music academy of the Yerevan Conservaory.

He is the creator of the special and unique musical sound and style of the popular

Armenian musical genre. Among many of his arrangements are Hoy Im Nazani Yar@,

Hopina, Yaman Yar etc. He has travelled the world and brought his talent as well as

the unique Armenian Popular Music to maillions. Many choral and musical societies

in the diapora have been named for him, among which those Cairo and Buenos Aires.
