As we had been talking about "TURKEY THE BIRD" and established that the bird is a native American and that it was erroneously named "indian" based on the fact that Coulumbus thought he had arrived in India, I remembered something.

In October of 1992, the 500th anniversary of Columbus' voyage there were numerous articles about the subject. One in particular caught my fancy. The Time magazine had an article, searching columbus' ethnicity. Many were mentioned, of course, Italian and Spanish being the most convincing, however it was mentioned that some thought he may have been of Armenian heritage. This prompted me to write a piece questioning if Columbus was indeed an Armenian. Probably not. But here is how Armenians fit the picture.

It is a well known fact that Columbus set out to find a shorter and safer route to China(Cathay) and India. He knew that the earth was round and that by sailing west he would eventually end up in the east. Europeans were not only fascinated by the exotism of the east they were also very dependent on it since before the invention of refrigeration spices were the only preservative(besides salt which at times was more expensive than its weight in gold, the word "salary" is based on "sal/sel/salt"). For a long time the route to the east, the so called Silk Road was relatively safe. The Europeans not only found it safe to travel through Anatolia but they were also much welcome. During the Crusades Kilikian Armenia was not only a safe place but a much needed and welcome respite for the weary "crusaders". But, things changed. After the fall of Kilkia the territory became very perilous. Between 1395 and 1492 much had changed in those lands. Now that the hospitable europhilic Armenian had all but been eliminated many a caravan was constantly robbed and harrassed so much so that an alternate route to the east had to be found. Those hostile lands had to be avoided at all cost. Columbus had the bright idea of "traveling east to get to the west".

Was Columbus Armenian?

Not likely.

Did Armenians play a role in the discovery of America?

Even if by their absence?

Well if we assume that Europeans are descendants of Caucasians, then Columbus must have been a Caucasian as well. In that case, even Hitler was an Armenian.
