According to the initiative's press release Karapetyan claimed whathappened to his wife makes him think that a mafia dealing with saleof human organs is operating in Armenia. Speaking to the initiativemembers, Karapetyan said the doctors in Margaryan hospital sew hiswife's ureter demonstrating as if they were unaware of it. Being sown for quite long time the functionality of ureter wasdisturbed and the doctors advised to remove the kidney, which thoughwas healthy but became useless because of failed ureter. Before the removal operation Karapetyans demanded that after theoperation the kidney be given to them and had signed a contract withthe hospital. While after the surgery the hospital refused to givethe kidney, saying they need it for expertise. Karapetyan said the accidental sowing of the ureter was the beginningof their plan to sell the kidney. "The chain of events is a serious reason for thinking that there ismafia in Armenia for the sale of human organs," said Karapetyan inthe video "We will not be silent," declaring that at Margayan hospitalthe doctors deliberately stitched urethra of his wife, then for a longtime pretended that they did not know that they also stitched urethra. Being wired for a long time, the functional properties of the urethrawere broken, and doctors advised to remove the kidney, which, thoughwas healthy. To remove the kidney the doctors demanded Karapetyans'family the organ, in connection with which the hospital had a writtenagreement. However, after the operation, the hospital refused to givethe kidney, referring to an "examination." According to Karapetyan, there is an indirect evidence of the doctorswho were in the conspiracy: first, the operation was formulated asa state order, despite the fact that the family was solvent. Recently We will not keep silence initiative released a video withKarapetyan telling what happened. Karapetyan said his wife was operated in Margaryan maternity hospitalclaiming that as a result of a mistake the woman faced a number ofproblems, which resulted in the necessity to remove the kidney. "During five months she underwent seven surgeries of which three inNairi, one in Margaryan and another one in Armenia medical center. Asa result my wife's kidney was removed," he said, claiming that allthese operations were useless and were made to take the woman's kidney. Karapetyan said they have applied to the doctor of Margaryan hospitalOkoyev demanding to return them the kidney, but the latter refused todo so saying they had sent it for expertise. "I have been convincedthat human organ selling mafia is operating in Armenia," he said,claiming that the kidney was sold in Nairi medical center. As a result, his wife Nune Maghakyan lost her job, became secondclass handicapped and now is getting the third class. A criminal case has opened into the case in 2010 but till now nosolution was given to the issue, the patient's husband says. "I demandfair trial and financial compensation otherwise I am going to applyto the European court," Karapetyan said. Director of Margaryan mother and child health preservationcenter, professor G. Okoyev released an explanation relating toNune Maghakyan's case. According to it, Maghakyan was to undergo asurgery during which it became clear that she has other problem as wellneeding surgery. The doctor decided to expand the scope of the surgeryduring which a complication has aroused needing interference of otherspecialist and the patient was transported to other medical center. After few surgeries with the written request of the patient and awritten document Maghakyan's kidney was removed. The medical center reported that no mistake was made by doctor duringthe surgery in Margaryan hospital which is proved by three expertiseconclusions. "A German doctor that participated in the expertise made conclusionthat doctor Okoyev has not committed any mistake during the operationand his decision to expand the scope of the surgery was aimed at theimprovement of patient's health. Besides, the surgery was made withthe consent of Maghakyan's consent," the statement says. As demandedby law the surgery was state-funded. It is not the choice of eithera doctor or medical center but is being done by the established rules. "As to the kidney removal, it was done after six months in othermedical center with request of the patient who refused other twoways of treatment to avoid kidney's removal and submitted writtenrequest of doing it. Referring to the demand of Karapetyan to returnthe removed kidney, the medical center says according to hygienicand anti-epidemic norms the human organs in Armenia are subjectedto special preservation and elimination through a special method andthe implementation of the such senseless request of the patient wouldhave been illegal," the hospital's statemen runs.
