MosJan
TURKEY FAILS TO EXPLAIN BLOCKADE AGAINST ARMENIA YEREVAN, JANUARY 29, ARMENPRESS: The head of the Armenian delegation in the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly Hovaness Hovanesian said that Turkey failed to provide a reasonable explanation why it has been blockading Armenia at a regular session of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly in Strasbourg January 21-25. The issue was discussed by PACE, but "Turkey could not give an answer to that question. It had either to admit the fact of the blockade or lift it, which they do not want to do," Hovanesian said. Hovanesian claimed that Armenian-Azeri opposition couldn't serve a basis for Turkey to impose blockade against Armenia. He said the Armenian delegation would be raising the issue as long until it gets a just solution. He also claimed that many members of the PACE have come to start sharing the position of the Armenian side in this issue. According to Council of Europe and EU experts, Armenia sustains annually some $500 million in losses because of being blocked from the shortest routes across Turkey to Europe and Middle East.
