THARR

TAR

Above I spelled it as THARR as in the Armenian it is written as ԹԱՌTHO AYB RA

Ajarian does no speak about it as a musical instrument, instead he talks about it being, among others as a tree branch/twig . Consider the word tarrel as in birds landing on branches.

Ghapantsian says it is from the Persian musical instrument.

To me it sounds like an onomatopoeic/bnadzayn word, based on the sound of the instrument.

A bonus, see many other instruments here.

I believe the Soviet Union's primitive designations of culture and cultural heritage is at the root of all of these cultural conflicts. Nowhere was this policy carried out more vehemently than in Azerbaijan, which itself is perhaps a product of Soviet historiography. The only reason their tantrums (and pseudo-history) are tolerated by some in the West is due to petrodollars.

Let me guess, the word tar comes from "Azerbaijani Tatars." :P

Edit: We can apparently no longer write in Armenian Unicode? Please fix this!

Sorry tried to fix but the Armenian text disappeared. Edited by Yervant1
