MosJan
BOOK ABOUT ARMENIAN QUEENS LAUNCHED The United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) is implementing the project "Women for Conflict Prevention and Peace Building in the Southern Caucasus" in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia aimed at contributing to conflict prevention, conflict resolution and peace building in the region by enabling women's vision, strategies and skills to be a part of the peace and sustainable human development process. UNIFEM supported Armenian International Women's Association (AIWA) to launch Hayk Khachatryan's book "Queens of the Armenians," which covers the history of women of the Armenian royal court and is a continuation of author's previous work, Royalty: 141 Armenian Kings. The launching ceremony was held today in Yerevan. In the cross sections of the history, Armenian queens were active participants in governing, contributing to building prosperity and defending the nation. The book supports that Armenian women demonstrated an independent genuine mind-set and were active and creative members of the society. The book helps to understand that while facing vital challenges in our society, the achievement of women's rights is not the responsibility of women alone but it is the responsibility of society in general. The English edition of the book launched on the eve of the International Women's Day is the AIWA's effort aimed at increasing the visibility of Armenian women and promoting their role in society. The book serves as a source of information and will foster research and publication about Armenian women. © Copyright AZG
