MosJan
ARMENIAN CINEMA TO BE PRESENTED AT CANNES FILM FESTIVAL FEBRUARY 6. The Armenian cinema will not be presented at the Berlin International Film Festival, the first large film festival of the year opening today, because of delay in financing. At the same time, the "Symphony of Silence" film of the Armenian film director Vigen Chaldranyan will represent Armenia at the Cannes Film Festival to be opened in May, Director of the "Hayfilm" ("Armenfilm") Studio Gevorg Gevorgyan told ARMINFO today. It should be noted that this film is nominated for "Oscar" in 2002. Gevorkyan said that the nomination for "Oscar" does not prevent the film from participating in movie festivals of the first category, such as the Venice, Berlin or Cannes film festivals. However, if a film participates in one of these festivals it cannot take part in another. It should be noted that, 23 films are to compete for the Berlin Film Festival awards this year. Over 100,000 people are expected to visit cinema halls in two weeks. New Director of the Berlin International Film Festival Dieter Kosslick expressed hope that the festival will enhance the prestige of the Deutsche cinema both in Germany and abroad. German Chancellor Gerhard Schroder and Australian movie-star Cate Blanchet will attend a first-night of German film director Tom Tykwer's film "Paradise."
