Arpa
EDitorial; This is about Ara the Beautiful, not aboutAra the ugly who has hijacked this subject(Culture) topic. 564312 wrote;"I knew Assori families when I lived in Greece (shlonak, shukran, taal I remember those words) one day we were seating with few of the Assyrian women, talking, they started convincing me that in the story of Ara Gegecik and Shamiram it was Ara who fell in love with Shamiram (Shamiram being very beautiful) and took her away then she killed him. I kept looking at the women seating next to me they had incredibly big structures; I said no Ara was beautiful, they said no Shamiram wasbeautiful." This is nothing new. Armenians and Assyrians(Asoris) have been warring over this subject for centuries, as to who was the master(mistress) and who the beggar.Below you will find sites that show this not to be unique. The myth of the temptress is as old as ... the Garden of Eden (not to forget that Eden was in Armenia, and it was hijacked by those experts in the art of plagiarization).Go to the URLs below, in the meantime a quote from Martiros Kavukjian's Armenia Subartu yev Sumer; ²ñ³-Þ³ÙÇñ³Ù ³é³ëå»ÉáõÙ, ²ñ³Ý ³ñ¹¿Ý ³ëïáõ³ÍáõÃÇõÝ ¿, ÇëÏ Þ³ÙÇñ³ÙÁ ѳݹÇë³ó»É ¿ ÉáõëÝÇ ³ëïáõ³ÍáõÃÇõÝ...In the legend of Ara and Shamiram Ara is the Sun deity while Shamiram(Semiramis) is the moon god who is enamored with the Sun of Armenia, Ara and she is tormented with amorous pangs. Sh» must have him as a lover and husband. But Ara. the model of marital fidelity would rather be faithful to his life companion Nuard (see below about her) spurns her advances. For this the moon Godess Shamiram along with her troops(the stars)invades the land of Ara(Hayasatan) but when she realizes that the Sun god Ara had been killed ([the sun has set]contrary to her instructions) in the process, she resigns to the myth of meeting him in eternity, i.e. life after death, that the Aralez's/Haralez's will revive him.More about Haralez's later.I wish someone would write the definitive, complete and pictoral book about Armenian Mythology to compete with the best of hem such as Greek, Roman and others. They are proud of their ancient history(mythology), why are we ashamed!!! vava
Arpa, Much thanks! I have spent my entire afternoon reading Armenian (and other) mythology. It was a great way to spend a Saturday, to discover some new stories I had never even heard. quote:Posted by Arpa:I wish someone would write the definitive, complete and pictoral book about Armenian Mythology to compete with the best of hem such as Greek, Roman and others.I nominate Arpa! Hi Vava, I have not forgotten. I just posted two item about our mythological figures, Mher and Vahagn under the subject topic of Andznanunner. They don't really belong there, it was in response to questions. Iwish they would be moved and given a proper subject topic such as Armenian Mythology in the general category of Culture, thereby giving us the chance to add and edit as necessary. Who know, we may even have one of geeks add pictures and graphics to them. Not me. I don't have the tools or the talent for that.
