AUSTRIAN ARMENIAN HISTORIAN ARTEM OHANJANIAN BECAME HONORARY DOCTOR OF ARMENIAN NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCE

He is regarded as one of the proponents of Armenian culture and history in Europe. It is partly thanks to him that the world is familiar with documents about the 1915 Armenian Genocide.

Artem Ohanjanian was exiled from the capital of Azerbaijan in the 1930s. He received his first education in Tehran, then graduated from the Vienna Arts Academy’s department of music and film. Then he began teaching at the same Academy. Artem Ohanjanian is author of 62 films and received awards from 6 international festivals. He also authored a number of publications on history. In 1988, he published a collection of archival materials entitled “Austria-Armenia, 1912-1918,” where he included Austrian archival documents on the Armenian Genocide. In 1989, he published a work called “Armenia: The Forgotten Genocide.” He also authored works called “Franz Werfel and the 40 Days of Musa Dagh” and “The Armenian Question, Austro-Hungary and Germany.” The last two of his works were published by the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute in German.
