EMPTY VERBIAGE

***********************************

Losers love to talk and argue endlessly about things they can do nothing about.

A friend of mine visiting Canada from Greece once demanded to know: "What the hell is the matter with these people? -- they refuse to argue with me."

Several Armenian poets have written poems in which they blame God for all our major tragedies. That’s what happens to people who are addicted to play the blame-game: when they run out of scapegoats, they end with one that may not even exist, and if He exists, there isn’t much anyone can do about Him.

The Irish – perennial losers like the Armenians – are great talkers too, also great poets and writers. But the Irish themselves have no use for them. Shaw and Wilde were active mainly in London and Joyce lived everywhere except Dublin. This may suggest that losers too have an unconscious aversion for men of words or empty verbiage.

The worst part of it is that we think by winning an argument we may have partly changed our profile from perennial losers to…well, almost future winners: we are on our way to the top of the world. Someday we may even make it to the top of Mt. Ararat!
