10-YEAR INDEPENDENCE BROUGHT FUNDAMENTAL REFORMS

Human rights commission close to Armenian president held its regular Thursday session on September 20, where an announcement on the 10-th anniversary of Armenia’s Independence was adopted.

 

 

Starting 1991 Armenia is an equal member of nations’ world family’,- is said in the announcement. Noting that ‘independence is really a great national achievement and a dream of many generations’, the human rights commission members underlined its positive role on raising the Karabagh issue and considered it a precondition of progress in human rights sphere.

 

 

The commission also referred to formulation of multi-party system, economic, constitutional and juridical reforms. Among the improvements in people’s civil rights’ sphere the commission especially noted the freedom of speech and information.

 

 

Nevertheless, accepting that the minimum normal living conditions of people in Armenia still continue remaining unsatisfactory, the commission expresses readiness to support programs elaborated in Armenia aimed at decreasing poverty, improving state system and struggling against corruption- ‘for the benefit of Armenia’s continuous independence and for securing human rights’ protection’.
