The plan included a Tenth Anniversary Celebration Concert in Las Vegas, Nevada; the phone-a-thon 2002 campaign and Telethon 2002. These plans were enthusiastically approved by the HAAF Board of Trustees. The Tenth Anniversary Celebration Concert was held on August 24, 2002 at the MGM Grand Arena, and was cheered by over 4000 enthusiasts. The phone-a-thon 2002 campaign is already in full swing and will continue till November 16, 2002. Preparations for the Telethon 2002 are underway. It will be held on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2002 and will be broadcast in Southern California on DSCI, channel 18, for twelve hours, from 8:00 am till 8:00 pm. It will also be broadcast worldwide, via satellite and webcast via the Internet. The single most important project that stands out among the many projects currently in progress is the North-South Highway, the “backbone” of Karabagh. Traversing across more than 20 major towns, this 170 km long highway will connect over 100 towns and villages with the capital Stepanakert. It will thus play a tremendous role in the demographic, political, economic and strategic development of Karabagh. The Board of Trustees, in its May 2002 annual meeting referred above, recognized it as a top national priority and advocated its completion within a maximum of 3 years. The speedy completion of this project is an imperative necessity, as it would reinforce the safety and security of both Karabagh and Armenia. Let’s Join Forces Together on this Thanksgiving Day and Help Build a Strong Nation on the Strength of One Another. Armenia Fund, Inc., the West Coast affiliate of the “Hayastan” all Armenian Fund headquartered in Yerevan, Armenia, is a non-profit 501 © (3) corporation. Since 1996 AFI has raised over $18 million to help build and complete over 200 projects in Armenia and Karabagh.
