Nigoghossian surname

Obviously, my last name is Nigoghossian.

 

I did research on the surname by asking my parents and other relatives and searching on the Internet, but without success. Karoxa mek-nu-meket miban imana?

I have no idea how Nicholos/Նիկողոս/Nikolaos/Նիկողայոս came to become an Armenian name.

When did Armenians begin to call their sons “nigoghos/nikoghos”?

I do remember at one time when I met three scientists from Armenia, one said his name was Tigran, the other -Artash and the third - Nikolai . We all laughed.

Now you mention it, Nikolaus/Nicolaus means victory of the people in Greek.

Your sources indicate that St. Nicholas was Greek, but born in Turkey. Obviously, that's the reason why people say he's Turkish, while he really is not.

 

 

Does this mean that there's more in me than Armenian blood ? That can't be. There are more Armenian surnames that are patronymics from non-Armenian personal names.
