HijodeGagos
I am attempting to learn some Western Armenian and I had a quick question regarding pronunciation rules for the letters ու. I know they usually form the diphthong oo, but when ւ has a vowel on either side of it, isn't it pronounced as a v? For example: is աղուոր pronounced "aghovor" or "aghoo-or?" Any help would be much appreciated.

Arpa
The letter Ւ/Hiun is the most maligned, abused, mispronounced and orphaned of them all. I am in the process of writing an extended version about the letter . In the meantime let us survey this ridiculous joke of a chart of transliteration. Where Ծ/Dza=C just as Ց/Tso does.** Where the Ւ is totally corrupted and replaced by ՈՒ/OU. But the most ridiculous is that ԵՒ/YEV is the 37th letter of the Alphabet. DUHHH!!!! And Double DUHHH!!!Btw, the letter Թ is the equivalent of the Greek Theta/TH.What russky clown composes this chart?One time, someone here said that Ajarian had said that ԵՒ/YEV և - eu/evis a letter. Oh Yeah! Where? I never learned where that key is, and I couldn’t care less. How difficult is to type Ե/ եand Ւ/ւ? Not ԵՎ please!!Can you see that I am not laughing? ** Not to forget that Ճ/J = CH as in ճանճ/janj=chanch ? Ծ - C' Ց - C ՈՒ -U and և - ev ??? http://hyeforum.com/index.php?showtopic=18194&st=0&p=241625&hl=translit&fromsearch=1entry241625 http://www.genocide.ru/translit/help_am.html Ա - AԲ - BԳ - GԴ - DԵ - EԶ - ZԷ - E'Ը - Y'Թ - T'Ժ - Jh Ի - IԼ - LԽ - XԾ - C'Կ - KՀ - HՁ - D'Ղ - GhՃ - &, TwՄ - M Յ - YՆ - NՇ - ShՈ - O, WoՉ - ChՊ - PՋ - JՌ - R'Ս - SՎ - V Տ - TՐ - RՑ - CՈՒ -U[/b]Փ - Ph, P'Ք - Qև - evՕ - O'Ֆ - F Ւ,ւ - W,w - !'- ?'- ~- `: - :. - .« - <<» - >> Edited August 14, 2011 by Arpa

My first language is English and as my mother is Mexican, I speak some Spanish as well. My father is Armenian but his family came to the States back in 1912 so he never learned to speak the language. I've decided to finally teach myself. I can read the characters now pretty easily and I have a knack for language so I am progressing pretty quickly. I only started a couple months ago. I think the forum will help immensely.

[bAnd do not forget the other clown that set up the Macintosh "Mshtakan" font so that every time you type "ե" followed by "ւ," it automatically changes it to "և," and no matter what you do to change it, you cannot do it; even retyping it doesn't work. If I remember correctly, I think you can type them separately if you use a different font, but not with the default font of the Mac, which is the Mshtakan. I could care less. I have enough problems to learn where the keys for Ա and Բ are. When did we become so stingy and lazy to not type Ե and Ւ? not Ե and Վ please! Wait till you see our friends in "jerewan"** type it as ՅԵՎ.** Look up some maps made in Germany and see how they spell Yerevan/Jerewan.When did we become so stingy and lazy when we invent words like երկաՅնա-կլորա-խմորա-ծակ/yerkayna-klora-khmora-tsak for macaroni and "հեռուստատեսութՅուն/heroustatesoutyoun" for TV. And now, we cannot type Ե and Ւ? How about we abbreviate that two mile long English word A-N-D to something like ND?PS. Those who insist that the word ԵՒ is a letter have no business in Armenian linguistics.Ննջէցեք դուք անդորր Մաշթոց եւ Աճառեան, Նահատակ Եղբայրներ: Edited August 24, 2011 by Arpa
