AVARAYR

Fact or Fiction?

WHY IS NOT ANYONE DIGGING THE "FABLED" SITE OF AVARAYR?

IS IT BECAUSE WE ARE AFRAID TO BLOW THE WHOLE "FABLE" AWAY?

Don’t let me forget to ask if this saga is recorded in any other peoples’ archives, like one of the main actors -the Persian?

One of our least disputed Sagas., or is it?

See also Yeghisheh, where we saw that some dispute his accounts and the dates of his life. Some argue that he based his epic on Parpetsi. We will see it under another cover;

I have asked this before. I can’t pinpoint where.

Was it here;

At times we have also agreed that “history” without archeological corroboration would just be mere mythology.

Of all the archeological digs, why is not anyone digging Avarayr that is now supposed to be in a relatively friendly territory? Below read Karapetian’s article about “ Armenian monuments in Iran”.

:oops: You may want to kill me for this. The legend. Yes I said legend. I am not ashamed neither am I afraid to be known an iconoclast.

When and where did we learn to write this kind of history-schmistory-mistory? From those who say that their people wandered in the desert for forty, repeat forty years, who yet have not produced even a shred of physical evidence? **

Was there really a ”battle of Avarayr”? Where is the evidence? Where was it? Why is not anyone researching it? Has anyone found even a shred of evidence, like a button, a shoe/sandal lace? Never mind all that. Where are the tusks of all those elephants? Why are we not digging the site? Is it because we know it will blow away the whole legend ? It is not in enemy territory of furkey but in a relatively “friendly “ Iranian territory. Not to forget that a few hundred years ago that area was part of Armenia.

Observe this map. Avarayr is supposed to be to the north of Khoy, what is now known as Marakan (protected area), a stone’s throw away west of Jugha.

A map of modern NW Iran.

A detailed map. See the inset, locate the Tghmout River and the actual site of Avarayr.

What is the matter Mr. Karapetyan, is your shovel not sharp enough to dig at Tghmut River?

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian historical monuments on the territory of Iran are protected by the state, chairman of Armenian Cultural Foundation Samvel Karapetyan said.

Some cases of marauding took place at the Armenian cemeteries. Monuments of architecture are in due condition, they are protected by the state. Churches and cemeteries are fenced to rule out animals’ penetration to the territory, however the doors are not locked with key and everyone can visit monuments. Karapetyan considers praiseworthy that restorers do not use concrete in their works; they use lime.

The chairman of the Foundation said St. Stepanos Nakhavka Monastery which is situated near the border with Nakhichevan is being restored presently. Iranian authorities invited Armenian specialists who are engaged in restoration works there.

A working group in Iran attended pantheon of Fidains (participants of national liberation movement), where 9 behead bodies of Fidains rest.

The specialists from the Foundation headed by Karapetyan visited Armenian historical provinces Karadag (Parspatunik), Maku (Artas), Khoy (Ger), Salmast (Zarevand) on the territory of Iran from June 10 to July 10 and studied monuments.

The chairman of the Foundation stressed that there are as many monuments of architecture on that territory as in the modern Armenia’s provinces. Totally 6000 photos have been taken and 4500 monuments were reckoned. According to Karapetyan this is just a third part of monuments on the territory, and the studies will be continued by 2013. Results of studies will be published.

And this.

** It is assumed that Alexander and his army marched all the way from Athens to Afghanistan. Yet, even today, after 3000 years we still find artifacts that they left behind.
