Garo
Armenian Football Federation appoints new national team coach EREVAN, February 26 (DS) - At the meeting with the president of Armenian Football Federation Souren Abrahamyan on February 20, Armenian U-21 national team and Shirak Gyumri club coach Andranik Adamyan gave his consent to take over the Armenian national team. Adamyan is still to sign the contract that is why the details will be announced only after the 1 of March - on the day when he will be officially appointed to his new office. Adamyan would like to see as his assistant the manager of Armenian champion "Pyunik" Samvel Darbinyan. Shirak's manager is not against setting up a counsel of managers. Speaking about the results of Euro-2004 draw, Adamyan said: "Nobody comments on the results of the draw for diplomatic reasons. But I think we are going to a have a tough time, as there are 50 teams and 10 groups. Nevertheless, we will fight to the end in every game we are scheduled to play. Our nation is not a novice in the tournament and many players have the required experience. The former manager of the national Varuzhan Soukiasyan has done a great job and I would like him to continue working with the team." Adamyan believes the manager must work at least three years with players for the team to show any positive results. From February 11 to 16 Adamyan and Samvel Darbinyan took part in a seminar of Europe's managers in Spain, organized by UEFA. They were also present at the friendly match between Spain and Portugal. Adamyan is not going to quit Shirak so far but he will have to part with Armenian youth national team, for lack of time. He revealed his secrets of making the U-21 national team a strong side: "There was the element of luck of course. But I think the success resulted from a close collaboration of players and managers. Discipline is of utmost importance in every field and also the psychological work with players. We did everything we could for that and gathered the fruits of our labor. These are the principles I will use while working with the Armenian national team."
