MosJan
US Army General Says Turkey Must Be Removed From NATO A retired US Army General said that Turkey’s downing of a Russian warplane over Syria has proven that the country is a liability to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and must be “ousted” from the Western military alliance.Paul Vallely, US Army Major General (Ret.) said the shooting down of a Russian aircraft near the Syrian border was in line with Ankara’s struggle to establish itself as a “dominant” power and their action will likely jeopardize the fragile diplomatic effort to reach a peaceful settlement in Syria

MosJan
Two Turkish generals and a colonel were detained on Saturday for intercepting Syria-bound trucks that belonged to Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT), the newspaper Today’s Zaman reported. In January 2014, Ankara Gendarmerie Major-General Ibrahim Aydin, former Adana Gendarmerie Brigadier-General Hamza Celepoglu and former Gendarmerie Criminal Laboratory Head Colonel Burhanettin Cihangiroglu stopped Syrian-bound trucks in southern Turkey after they received information from an anonymous source that the trucks were illegally carrying weapons to militants in Syria. When the information about the trucks became public, MIT officials and high-ranking Turkish politicians, including President Recep Teyyip Erdogan, who was Prime Minister back then, and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, then the country's foreign minister, were furious that the gendarmes stopped the trucks and said the Syria-bound trucks were carrying "humanitarian aid" to Turkmen living just south of Turkey, the newspaper said.Read more: http://sputniknews.com/middleeast/20151129/1030948809/turkey-arrest-generals-truck-syria-weapons-terrorists.html#ixzz3t05Kwd7X
MosJan
Why slain Russian pilot deserves to be honored (CNN)As a military analyst for CNN, I've found the anchors often ask tough questions regarding tactics, battlefield operations, strategy and political maneuvering associated with conflict. But Sunday morning, I was asked: "What is the protocol for the transfer of remains of the Russian pilot whose plane was shot down over Turkey?"That may be the most difficult question I've ever been asked.Mark HertlingMark HertlingWatching an escorted fallen soldier returning home to family and friends is something I have experienced far too often. I keep a box with photos of 257 soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice under my command, and every day those pictures remind me of their service to country and of a life which ended too abruptly. That's why I became emotional commenting on the final flight of Lt. Col. Oleg Peshkov. No matter your thoughts on Russian, Turkish or U.S. national strategy regarding the civil war in Syria and the fight against the terrorists of ISIS, Peshkov was a simple soldier -- a bomber pilot -- serving his state, and he deserves to be honored. see mor at http://edition.cnn.com/2015/11/29/opinions/hertling-russian-pilots-body-transferred/index.html

Yervant1
Turkey: Wrong Partner to Fight TerrorBy Burak BekdilNovember 28, 2015Racism is bad, no doubt. But it cannot be the reason why jihadistskill "infidels," including fellow Muslims in Muslim lands. Sadly, thefree world feels compelled to partner with the wrong country in itsfight against Islamic terror. The host of this year's G-20 summit, which came right after the Nov.13 Paris attacks, was Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. In hisusual Sunni supremacist language, he accused the victims of jihadrather than the jihadists. "New tragedies will be inevitable," hesaid, "if the rising racism in Europe and other countries is notstopped. Racism, coupled with enmity against Islam, is the greatestdisaster, the greatest threat."Yet Erdogan willingly ignores the rising racism, xenophobia, andanti-western, jihadist sentiments that increasingly command the heartsand minds of his fellow Turks. A quick look at a few sports games andfan behavior in recent weeks would reveal much about the Turkish mindand heart. On October 13, three days after a twin suicide bomb attack in Turkey'scapital, Ankara, killed more than 100 Kurds and pro-Kurdish, leftistand secular Turks, the central Anatolian province of Konya, a hotbedof political Islam in Turkey, hosted a Euro 2016 football qualifierbetween Turkey and Iceland. Before the kick-off, both teams stood fora moment of silence to protest the bomb attack -- a typical gesture torespect the victims. Sadly, the moment of silence was marred bywhistles and jeers: apparently the football fans of Konya wereprotesting the victims, not their jihadist killers.Anyone under the impression that the whole world stands in solidaritywith Paris should think again. Hundreds of Turkish fans booed andchanted "Allahu Akbar" ("Allah is greater" in Arabic) during a momentof silence for the Paris attack victims before a Turkey-Greece soccerfriendly. Once again, the Turks were exhibiting solidarity with theterrorists, not their "infidel" victims.More recently, on Nov. 21, Turkish police had to deploy 1,500policemen so that Turkish fans could not harm the visiting Israeliwomen's national basketball team. One thousand five hundred policeofficers at a women's basketball game! Despite that, Turkish fansthrew objects at Israeli players as they were singing Israel'snational anthem. Fans also booed the Israeli players while othersapplauded the fans who threw the objects.Unsurprisingly, Turkish fans waved Palestinian flags. Israeli womenbasketball players were barred from leaving their hotel other than fortraining and the game.None of that is surprising although, at least in theory, Turkey is acandidate state for membership in the European Union. A new study byPew Research Center revealed that 8% of Turks have a favorable opinionof the Islamic State (IS), higher than in the Palestinian territories, where support for IS stands at 6%, and only one point lower than inPakistan. Nineteen percent of Turks "do not know" if they have afavorable or unfavorable opinion of IS -- which means 27% of Turks donot have an unfavorable opinion of the jihadist killing machine. Thatmakes more than 21 million people! Of the countries polled, Lebanonboasted a 100% unfavourable opinion of IS and Jordan, 94%. InIndonesia, the world's most populous Muslim country, 4% reported afavourable opinion of IS, half of Turkey's.This is Erdogan's "neo-Ottoman" and increasingly Islamist Turkey. After the Paris attacks, this author saw tweets that called thevictims "animal carcass;" that said "now the infidels will lose theirsleep out of fear;" and others that congratulated the terrorists "whoshouted Allah-u aqbar."Meanwhile, and so funny, the free world cannot see that its ally tofight the jihadists is another jihadist. How should Erdogan fightIslamic terror--something he does not believe exists? One of Erdogan'sfamous remarks is, "there is no Islamic terror." But he thinks that"just like fascism," Zionism is a crime against humanity.[Photo: Turkish President (then Prime Minister) Recep Tayyip Erdogan, right, meeting with Hamas leaders Khaled Mashaal (center) and IsmailHaniyeh on June 18, 2013, in Ankara, Turkey. One of Erdogan's famousremarks is, "there is no Islamic terror."]There is a Turkish saying that could perhaps describe the free world'salliance with Erdogan's Turkey against jihadist terror: "Kuzuyu kurdaemanet etmek" ("to trust the wolf with the sheep").Burak Bekdil, based in Ankara, is a Turkish columnist for the HurriyetDaily and a Fellow at the Middle East Forum.http://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/6954/turkey-partner-terror

MosJan
Defying calls from Moscow, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Monday that his country would not apologise to Russia for shooting down a warplane operating over Syria, saying the Turkish military was doing its job defending the national airspace.Amid high tensions that have elicited concerns from the United Nations chief, Mr. Davutoglu also said Turkey hoped Moscow would reconsider economic sanctions announced against Turkish interests in the wake of last week’s incident. The Turkish resort town of Antalya “is like a second home” to many Russian holidaymakers, he said, but refused to yield on Turkish security.“If they wants talks, so be it”“No Turkish Prime Minister or President will apologise ... because of doing our duty,” Mr. Davutoglu told reporters after meeting NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Brussels. “Protection of Turkish airspace, Turkish borders is a national duty, and our army did their job to protect this airspace. But if the Russian side wants to talk, and wants to prevent any future unintentional events like this, we are ready to talk.”
