HOODWINKED AGAIN?

OK, we in the US are at war with terrorism. But does that mean that we should throw out the baby with the bathwater?

Well, well, well!!! The Bush Administration is working to working to overturn Section 907. Some of us worked very hard to try to get Bill Bradley the Democratic nomination. He was the ONLY major candidate who spoke without provocation about the Genocide. But as usual the powerful Armenians in America did not support this candidate.

And Clinton is running around the country attending Holocaust testimonials. The Jews know where to put their money. Do we?

Not only do we not know where to put our money, we allow outside forces to drive wedges between our most influential organizations and individuals. The disasterous "reconciliation commision" has very serious implications for Armenians. The lack of cooperation between the AAA and ANCA because of this commision is making the revokation of Section 907 a more and more likely possibility. This week's article by Harut Sassounian delves further into the subject.

On a side note, why wasn't Bradley supported by powerful Armenian-Americans? Because he was a Democrat?

Wh00t,

I think that you have answered the question. How can we expect these folks to support an odar Democrat when they go after Armenian Democrats? The Republicans are placed on a high pedestal, sometimes undeserved, while our Democrats are mostly ignored. Is it no wonder that Clinton didn't support us? What percentage of us supported him, maybe 30%, mostly Armenian Catholics and Armenian Protestants. With all the Armenian money Bush got he has no justification to abandon the Armenians.

I've said it before and I'll say it again Bush is an IDIOT rivalling Usama Bin Ladin (giving up his inheritance for a life and now most probably death in a cave somewhere in Afghanistan). A true representation of the majority of the US public (Bush is).

And btw, Turkey is more important to US that Armenian and American-Armenian community will ever be. Unfortunatelly that is the painful truth, and unfortunatelly America is the most powerful country on earth.

During the Gulf War, the father of Bush bested the approval rate his son has now, 91% to 90%. In crisis, Americans stick together. However, the father lost the 1992 election just two years later. You do not understand Americans. There are serious policy differences between Bush and both elements of his own party and the Democrats which are now not critical as the nation has been attacked in an act of war. There is serious muffled opposition to the ideological views of the Atty. General. These differences are temporarily on hold as the country shows solidarity toward a common enemy. Just look at what happened to the father.

When will the majority of Armenians become enlightened? When it is too late? A people who have been Genocided but who are conservative will not garner the sympathy of the world.

I guess that the majority of our intellectuals, who tend to be more moderate on the political spectrum, were eliminated by the Young Turks and the Stalinists. The majority of those who have survived are the children and grand-children of peasants, who usually more traditional and tied to the past.
