Baku-Armenians to move from Russian capital to United States

The head of Russian government committee on migration Sergey Smidovich said at a news conference held in Moscow July 10 that Russian authorities support the program of US Department of State on re-settling the Baku-Armenians currently living in Russian capital in USA.

He also stated that their committee will take immediate part in the program. In his words the committee is currently preparing the list of the Baku-Armenians living in Moscow, which will be completed by the end of this year.

According to Baku-based Gazette 525 a part of the Baku-Armenians managed to receive Russian citizenship in Moscow, but the greater part continues to reside there illegally. The US Department of State came up with a program to re-settle these people in USA. According to Gazette 525, around 600 Armenians will apparently be involved in the program.

For already several years a ‘Union of Baku-Armenians’ functions in the Russian capital. The head of the union Svetlana Korsakova said that about 1,700 Armenians who escaped Azerbaijan in 1989-90 now live in Moscow.
