Arpa
SUNIK-sudan?Միթէ Սուտ- ան Սուտ վանը ը Սուտ երկիր՞ է ?Ով է գծել այդ՛ սահմաննեերը? մէհմետը, չրչիլը կամ լենին-ստալինը?We still don’t know what that new state of “south Sudan” will name themselves.I don’t know why that country was called Sudan. To me it sounds like it is from Arabic to mean the” country of blacks-el Sud/aswad/sudan(plural)”. It is curious that in the French “sud” means “south”.Note that, even though “South Sudan” is less than half the size of the present country it has most of the wealth, like petroleum and other commodities, besides it is majority non-Muslim (Christian et al).Artsakh , on the other hand has very little similarity , as far as demographics, natural resources etc. To interest the superpowers, on the contrary.----How about we start a new campaign to rename Artsakh Sunik, East Sunik if you will , to make it easier for the international media to pronounce??? We should also consider shortening and simplifying other geographic names , like Stepanakert** etc..**Who the hell that Stepan Shahumian the commie is anyway!!! He did not die on behalf of Armenia, but for communism!! http://hyeforum.com/index.php?showtopic=22191&pid=260830&st=0entry260830---- http://www.panorama.am/en/politics/2011/01/31/nalbandyan/ Armenian FM: Sudan referendum results confirmed that self-determination is an inseparable right of every nation“Armenia is welcoming the referendum held in South Sudan. The published preliminary results of the referendum, which surely will not be essentially different from the final results, confirmed one more time, that the self-determination is an inseparable right of every nation,” Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said in an interview with “Armenpress” news agency answering on question on referendum results in South Sudan.“Already 60 years, since the establishment of the UN, this choice of the people of South Sudan is the freshest example of the victory marsh of the right of self-determination, and a right way to solve the existing problems that is absolutely welcomed by the international community. We hope that by choosing the way of determining its own destiny, through expression of its will, South Sudan will succeed in the establishment and the accomplishment of an independent statehood.” How many times have I asked how big Armenia is, the answer has always been .” I don‘t know, “like Rhode Island”?Armenia (officially) 11,400 sq miles.. And … Rhode Island covers an area of approximately 1,545 square miles (4,002 km2) and is bordered on the north and east by Massachusetts, on the west by Connecticut, and on the south by Rhode Island Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. The official figures for Artsakh before … 1,699 sq mi.Today, with the addition of another 2,000 sq mi. =4,000. That alone is twice the size of the state of DelawareDelaware is 96 miles (154 km) long and ranges from 9 miles (14 km) to 35 miles (56 km) across, totaling 1,954 square miles (5,060 km2), making it the second-smallest state in the US…next to RI The official figures for Artsakh is 1,700 sq mi. Add to that the lands between Armenia and Iran, another 3,000 sq mi, what do you get? 5,000 sq mi?Add that to map of Armenia= 18,000 ? Not to forget Nakhjavan 2,200 sq mi. =20,000. http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs071.snc3/13860_321055120365_584095365_9663519_5103115_n.jpghttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Arcax.jpg Edited February 2, 2011 by Arpa
