OPEN LETTER TO SAMUEL WEEMS

My apologies for misspelling your name. If you promise not to address me as “good sir,” I will try hard not call you the Osama Bin Laden of Arkansas. Clearly you are dodging and sidestepping the entire issue.

I can understand where you are coming from: A judge from Arkansas. Most probably a political appointment. Career experience: handed out several hundred criminal and civil cases. No questions asked. When the judge lowered the gavel, everyone obeyed. Any whisper or dissatisfaction could be considered contempt of court. You, Judge Weems, know only how to hand out orders. No one objected to your judicial decisions, but, because the field of historical

journalism demands accurate and referable published sources, you are left naked. As a defensive mechanism, you are wearing the mantle of a Southern Baptist solely for the purpose of covering your iniquities.

I, as a journalist ( M.S. in journalism, U.C. Los Angeles), worked with IBM for over 33 years as a technical editor. Currently I am editing a technical magazine that deals only in facts, not fiction or hearsay. In my business, when we say that one square inch of the new disk storage unit can store 20 Mega Bytes’ more data than the old (IBM unit), it means just that. It can be tested, measured, and proven by every working engineer.

We do not clutter it with personal opinions. Now, Judge Weems, would you please give me some facts that I can verify from any public library in the country?

Now the issues:

Your e-mail of Feb. 4, 2002 asks immodesty, “Good sir, when did you or your forefathers first come to America?” Judge Weems, is this a covert insinuation that, because your ancestors might have arrived on this is certain. By the time my ancestors arrived America, your ancestors had already killed most of the native Indians and had put the rest in “reservations.” Then, to further muddy the waters, your ancestors called my ancestors

“”Fresno Indians.” I take that as a compliment. I do not discriminate against race, religion or color, but I detest fakes and pseudo-intellects who hide behind the flag. Further, perhaps long before my ancestors arrived in America, your ancestors had a field day with our Afro-American citizens.

They had become your ancestors’ personal property. It took more than 200 years before they were recognized as your equals. One day, during my freshman year at Swarthmore Collage, because of illness, our regular professor. As he entered the classroom, he observed: “I understand, you are a bit surprised to see me, one thing is very clear. While your forefathers may have arrived here on the Mayflower and mine in a slave boat, we are now, all of us,

in the same boat.”

Again, your e-mail of February 12, addressed to me, emphasized the notion, as you claim: “I don’t have a drop of Armenian, Turkish, Azerbaijani nor any Near East blood in my veins.”

Is this a judicial terminology insinuating that you are superior to those of us who are Armenians, Turks or Azerbaijani? Please do not attempt to explain.

You claim that you have written a book, based entirely on Armenian sources, that proves (according to your claim) that the Ottoman Turks never massacred 1.5 million innocent Armenian citizens of Turkey between 1914-1922.

My response to that outlandish claim was, and is, “why did you not refer to Western sources like the New York Times, The Times of London, The Boston Globe, and Turkish authors like Taner Akcam and Mehmed Tzan?” In my response of February 6 to your race baiting and slanderous remarks about all Armenians (your e-mail response of Feb. 4 to Mr. Jelalian). I listed several sources that you could research to establish the facts of the Ottoman Turkish

massacres of their Armenian citizens.

You claim the Armenians are “liars” and yet you limit your sources of information only to Armenian sources, which, by the way, you have failed so far to reveal, which is an indication of nonexistence. You certainly are having your cake and eating it too. I hope you do not choke on it. I need you. Where else can I find such a bungling, brazen, and brash adversary? Just who is playing childish pranks? This self-delusion and self-aggrandizement

makes you larger than the Wizard of Oz… Just get a copy of The Armenian Reporter Int’l, February 9, 2002. They even printed a picture of you sailing in your private boat in the Bosphorus. Of course, they did not print a single word of my rebuttal of Feb. 6. Oh! Judge, can you see the depth of journalistic fairness in the Armenian press? WE will cut our noses to save the skin on the nose of our enemy.

Another of your unmitigated and unfounded claims is that the Armenians are “not good Christians.” I personally hope and wish that you were right. For, if that were true, they would not have wasted all their meager resources in building thousands of churches in Turkey, which later became their own funeral parlors. Had they been irreverent Christians like you, they would have used their resources to defend themselves with guns instead

of prayers.

You claim in Feb. 4 e-mail, “There are more churches in Turkey than in Armenia.” That may be true. But, the big difference is that there are devout worshipers in the churches in Armenia, while the churches in Turkey are visited by ghosts and thieves. Of course, the existence of these historical relics is a mute testimony to the fact that the Ottoman Turks committed genocide. Unless Baptists like you think that those Armenians just vanished into

thin air or went for a long vacation to America to benefit your taxes.

As long as the Jews remined passive and defenseless for centuries, the world had nothing, but contempt for them. But, as soon as they armed themselves and began to defend their rights, the world would not only saluted them but financed their cause. By the way, for your edification, during the Ottoman rule, the Jews were forced to wear yellow sandals to identify them a Jews, not Muslims.

Here are some more historical headlines from the same New York Times archives: The New York Times, Friday, September 24, 1915, page 2, column 3: 500,000 Armenians Said to Have Perished, Washington Asked to Stop Slaughter of Christians by Turks and Kurds.

New York Times, July 13, 1919, page 1, column 2 : Turkey Condemns Its War Leaders, Court-Martial Gives Death Sentence to Enver *****, Talat Bey, and Djemal *****.

Henry Morgenthau, American Ambassador at Constantinople, and Sir Louis Mallet, the British Ambassador at the same place, have left no doubt in their dispatches, books, articles, and internounced by a Turkish court-martial ordered by the new Grand Vizier Damad Ferid *****…..It is the Armenian, Greek, and Syrian atrocities. (Just remember, Mr. Weems, the word genocide was not invented yet; it was generated after)

New York Times, Sunday October 10, 1915, Section II, pages 3 and 4.: Turkish Statesman denounces Atrocities, Cherif ***** says Young Turks Long Planned to Exterminate the Armenians:

An arraignment of the Young Turks, or the Committee of Union and Progress, as having for years plotted the extermination of the Armenian people….. further, the same Turkish statesman proclaims: ”If there is a race which has been closely connected with the Turks by its fidelity, by the intelligence which it has manifested in all domains – commerce, industry, science, and the arts – it is certainly the Armenians.” Mr. Weems, that was

recorded by an honest Turk and There are just as many honorable Turks now as then.

The massacres of the Armenians in 1915, by George R. Montgomery: “The Armenians were driven into this desolate waste with the alleged purpose of forcibly transplanting them from their homes to a strange land – a purpose, which, even had it been the real one, is repugnant to every human feeling.”

Despite the fact that you have failed to present a single authentic source for your wild claims, you want us to believe you without questioning you. To add insult to injury, you have abandoned all scholarly avenues of research and study. You have restored to slander and race- hating.

 

Further, in your e-mail response of February 4, you claim that we Armenians are false Christians because we have not forgiven our enemy, the Turk, for massacring innocent women and children. You fail to recognize that you, yourself, wearing the mantel of a Southern Baptist Christian, have not forgiven us for our infirmities. But, instead, you are spreading lies and distortions of facts – all for the glory and the pride of authorship.

Pride precedes a fall. Fo both you and the Ottomans.

 

You have arrogantly questioned the wisdom of sending your tax dollars, a measly $80 million, to Armenia. My answer. Oh! Judge of all. It’s for same reason that I and a million other Armenian Americans pay taxes that are eventually siphoned into the pockets of your smiling Turkish Generals (annually $3. billion). It is for the same reason that helped Germany and Japan and all of same for Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and all the

“Stans.” Tell that to your Congressmen. I suppose we want to buy friends instead of earning them. You have all the answers. You claim to be the possessor of the “absolute truth.”

 

Now let me calculate your share of the taxes that goes to Armenia. Of the $16 billion economic and military foreign aid bill, less than $80 million goes to Armenia. This amounts to less than $1.00 out of every $200.00 foreign aid. Another way of calculating is to assume there are only 100 million taxpayers and no corporation taxes. If each person paid a minimum of $1,000.00 income tax, the share of each taxpayer’s money that goes to

Armenia would be $1.00 out of every $1,250.00. Now, if we assume that you could persuade about 3 million Southern Baptist Christians, which is 3% of the total individual taxpayers, then you would be entitled to a refund of three cents each. I recommend that you deduct that amount from your taxes when your next file with the IRS. They may approve it.

 

One last request. If you ever quote me in any of your books, just be very careful that you do not take them out of context. No slippery tongue or fingers. Do not change or substitute even a comma. Because if you do, it may be adulterated into this example translated from the Armenian: “ Be wise like your father; don’t be a jack ass.” Or “Don’t be a jack ass like your father, be wise.”

you guys,

i was checking out some of the links from that weems guy and the stuff he had to say and the turkish forum and all...now, can anyone here tell me what the hell this guy is talking about? where does he get his research from? what's this whole armenian-nazi nonsense? how can they just come out and say we massacred azeris? if we really did i would think they would have made a lot of noise!!! definitely!!! and now, they claim that armenians in turkey are 'living peacefully and enjoy all benefits that come along with being a turkish citizen?? this is all so twisted? so my question is: what are these sources and where are they coming from? ...i'm just baffled by this whole thing! is turkey paying this guy to spread anti-armenian propaganda? UNconfuse me, please!
