In his book The Nude: a Study in Ideal Form Kenneth Clark traces the historical-geographic progression of the naked body through from antiquity through the 20th century. In the chapter entitled The Naked and the Nude he elaborates on the difference that exists in the English language between these two notions: “to be naked is to be deprived of our clothes, and the word implies some of the embarrassment most of us feel in that condition.” Such a body is described by Clark as “huddled and defenseless.” Whereas a nude is “a balanced and confident body: the body re-formed.”

Քեննեթ Քլարքը «Մերկ մարմինը. իդեալական ձեւի ուսումնասիրություն» գրքում ուրվագծում է արեւմտյան արվեստի մեջ մերկ մարմնի պատմական-աշխարհագրական հետագիծը անտիկ դարաշրջանից մինչեւ 20-րդ դարը: Գրքի «Տկլորը եւ մերկը» (“The Naked and the Nude”) բաժնում պարզաբանվում է այն տարբերությունը, որ անգլերեն լեզվի մեջ առաջ է եկել այդ երկու բառերի միջեւ. «լինել տկլոր, նշանակում է զրկված լինել հագուստից», եւ բառը նշանակում է այն դժվար կացությունը կամ շփոթությունը, որին մատնվում է տկլոր մարմինը: Մարմին, որ Քլարքը բնորոշում է որպես «կծկված, անպաշտպան»: Մինչդեռ մերկը «հավասարակշռված եւ վստահ, վերափոխված մարմինն է»: (Հայերեն լեզվում այդպիսի տարբերակում չկա, ուստի բառերի զույգի այս դասավորությունն ինչ-որ իմաստով պայմանական է

A very interesting research. But I would say, that the lack of nude or naked bodies in the Armenian art is easily explained with the fact, that Armenian women are not well proportionated , neither are they beautiful.
