DIPLOMATIC CYNICISM

Imagine what a howl would Israeli authorities and Jewish lobby set up if an Armenian diplomat to Israel said the following at a briefing held in Tel Aviv: ‘Armenia recognizes the suffering of Jews, but thinks that historians should discuss the Jewish Holocaust and say exactly what, when and where everything took place. We think that today the issue must not be raised to political level. It better remains as an important, but academic issue’.

 

 

Official Yerevan, on the basis of the foreign policy of which lies the Armenian Genocide recognition issue, has not yet responded, and most probably will not, to the provocative announcements made by the second secretary of Israeli embassy in Georgia and Armenia (location Tbilisi, Georgia) Harry Clayman at the briefing held at the ‘Yerevan’ hotel of Yerevan couple of days ago.

 

 

Referring to the Armenian Genocide issue, the Israeli diplomat made an announcement which can be considered a diplomatic cynicism. ‘Israel recognizes the sufferings of Armenian nation, but thinks that historians should start discussing the Armenian Genocide issue and give exact information what, when and where everything took place. I think that this issue must not be discussed on a political level. It better remains as an important, but academic issue’,- said Harry Clayman.

 

 

Adolph Hitler thought the same way when carrying out the Jewish Holocaust – saying that nobody remembers the Armenian Genocide then.

 

 

A number of international organizations, more than ten countries – and among them France, have recognized the Armenian Genocide. To Clayman’s cynic ‘where, what and when’ expression many noble countries, political figures and historians, among whom there are many Jewish scientists, answered that ‘a crime was committed against humanity- a mass extermination of Armenians took place during the W.W.I in the territory of Ottoman Empire’.

 

 

Mr. Clayman suggests regulating Turkish-Armenian relations instead of recognizing the genocide and brings the example of Turkish-Armenian Reconciliation Commission. Then why don’t we suggest to create a Jewish-German Reconciliation Commission, bring together 4 Jews and 4 Neo-Fascists and start guessing whether Jewish Holocaust did take place or not.

 

 

Harry Clayman made several other provocative announcements. Concerning the opening of Israeli embassy in Yerevan the Jewish diplomat said that it depends on Armenia, and whenever an Armenian embassy opens in Tel Aviv the very next day an Israeli one will open in Yerevan. But if Israel is guided by this principle then it shouldn’t have an embassy in Azerbaijan, for there is no Azeri embassy in Israel. Whereas Israel opened its embassy in Azerbaijan some time ago and has an ambassador there, and the Israeli-Azeri relations are said to be on a ‘high level’. Azerbaijan does not open an embassy in Israel because it is afraid to aggravate its relations with Iran and the Arabic world even more. And at the summits of Islamic countries’ organizations Azerbaijan does not defend the policy carried out by Israel in the region.

 

 

It is high time that Armenian legislative authorities draft a law, according to which those Armenian citizens who reject or question the Armenian Genocide are subject to criminal prosecution, and foreign citizens thinking in this way are subject to expulsion. In this respect we would like to remind that in Israel and a number of European countries criminal proceedings are instituted against those people who reject or question the Jewish Holocaust, and particularly in France such people are sentenced to one year of prison.

Interesting article, but I dont think the Israelis can be blamed for the statements of their ambassador, they are in a precarious situation and Turkey remains their ONLY significant ally in the region.
