What's the reason for growing interest?

It seems that there is a growing interest in Armenian Genocide from Western Powers. What are the reasons for sudden interest in our tragedy? Are they trying to use our tragedy to pursue their interests or they became humanitarians after 86 years? What’re the forum members’ opinions on this topic? What are the reasons for a growing interest from Western Powers about Armenian Genocide? I personally am against using our tragedy to advance some hidden agenda. It’s just immoral and is disrespectful toward the victims of genocide.

I think the motives of the European countries to recognize the Genocide are motivated by their non-willingness to see Turkey as a member of the EU. Obviously, Turkey is responding very negatively to those European countries, which push for the recognition, and is taking a course of confrontation, giving these countries another card in justifying their blocking of Turkey's membership (on the top of Cypsus, Kurdish issue, the overall Human Rights issue, and the unhealthy economy.)

Raffi, let me disagree with you on “means justify the ends”. Do we want Turkey to be forced to recognize genocide, or do we want it to realize its guilt. What’s the point of recognition of genocide, remorse or retribution? We don’t want to ride the current wave of anti-Turkish propaganda by Western Powers, because they can easily abandon their policies, and at the end we’d be left with a formidable foe. Lets not forget the Treaty Sevres, which subsequently resulted in a Turko-Armenian War, which ended up with Treaties of Kars and Moscow and loss of Kars Province and Mount Ararat. We should learn our lessons from history.

First of all, its us ,Armenians, who urge the Western Powers to recognize Armenian genocide. Second, it is not a sudden interest in recognizing the genocide, it is a long, hard, and painstaking work done by Armenian Diaspora and Armenia. And the fact that after 86 years this issue is discussed at high levels as it never was before is because now there is a favorable geo-political climate in the world for that. At least France had bolls, unlike the U.S. which can only bomb other countries with uranium shells for "humanitarian" purposes, recognize Armenian genocide! Whether French have other agendas or not does not matter, what matters is that Armenian agenda in France was met. Next, will be Italy, then Germany. Finally the mercantile U.S. and England will recognize it just to keep the pace with the rest of the world, which will alternately make Turkey recognize it.

Is there another way? Do you honestly believe Turkey will ever realize its guilt? Turkey can only be bullied into recognizing the Genocide. Recognition and (some) retribution is all we can get from Turkey. I, personally, don't expect any remorse on their part (after all these years of denial).
