LO news.amJuly 12 2010Armenia The organizers of the concert of world-famous star Jennifer Lopez inthe North Cyprus demanded $40m compensation for a canceled show. As NEWS.am reported earlier, Jennifer Lopez canceled a concert plannedto be held the Turkish-occupied northern Cyprus at the opening ofCratos Premium Hotel. The representatives of Jennifer Lopez say she would never back anystate, country, institution or regime that was associated with anyform of human rights abuse. After review of the Cyprus issue, thesinger's management decided to withdraw from the appearance. Thereafter, Cyprus Turks condemned the Greek Diaspora of U.S. forexerting pressure on Jennifer Lopez. They also demanded compensationand stated the singer has 2 months to visit Cyprus and give a concert. Otherwise, they intend to file a suit against the star. The TV channel releaseda statement saying it did not refuse the broadcast just because thesong is in Armenian. According to Turkish language Vatan TRT has decided not to broadcastAlex Tartaryan's Filled with Sorrow (Aciyla Dolu) song during aprogram called The Trace. The program the Armenian song on the albumwould be objectionable. Alex told Vatan that he is quite surprised to hear about the banbecause his song does not contain any political message. The wordswere written by his father Hayko for a choir and is about love. Haykowas a very famous Turkish Armenian singer in 1980s. He added that banning the song is not an answer and that it has tobe to the public to decide if the song is proper or no. After much media coverage on the topic TRT broke its silence with arelease. It denied banning the song just because it is in Armenianlanguage. TRT has an Armenian language programs. "TRT is an enlightened and liberal corporation. Banning a songfrom being broadcast just because it is [in] Armenian is out of thequestion," the Turkish Public Broadcasting said on Monday. "It is alsounreasonable for a corporation that has an Armenian radio station toban an Armenian song." The release went further saying the song was denied because it lackedproper documentations on translation. According to the Turkish lawif the public TV is going to broadcast a song in a language otherthan Turkish two certified translations are needed. TRT said it hasapproved nine songs from Alex Tataryan's album "İz." The only songthat has not approved so far is the one in Armenian language.
