Here's an excerpt from an email I got from a friend of mine (he goes to school in Hawaii). "During this year's Armenian genocide commemmoration, I was in DowntownHonolulu (which is not like downtown LA, it's a vibrant residential area). I decided to march around with this huge Armenian flag saying the Turks will pay, 85 years, youknow, the whole bit. But some stupid police officer came and didn't believe me, and he thought I was making Armenia up. He was like I never heard of that country. I said it was part of the collapsed Soviet Union, so he thought I was doing a communist protest,and said I didn't have a permit. Then he was like, oh Romania, I said no, Armenia. He said if I didn't stop he would arrest me, so I explained all about the genocide, but he still took me to the police substation, and I was all saying how I would sue, and my first ammendment rights where being violated. I had a convo like this beforeperson-where are you from?me-armeniaperson-oh romania i heard of itme-no Armenia not Romaniaperson-no no its romaniame-ARMENIAperson-stop being a jerk there is no such placeme-????????its pretty messed up i keep being mistaken for romanian all the time, or muslim , or latino, when i say Armenian they are all like whaaaa????? where's that????few people know of the armenian genocide or armenia for that matter.
