Boghos
Also from the site of the programme: "Scholarships: Scholarships are available; please inquire."
bellthecat
After looking the website I can't see any valid academic reason for this course to exist. Maybe it's only there to provide employment for those in the blossoming Armenian-genocide industry. The intro makes it clear that it is intended only for Armenians, this automatically nulifies its serious academic value. And what do they say it offers: It "offers instruction by a number of top scholars in the field". "Instruction" is not a word often used in university circles! Driving tutors instruct you, not academic lecturers! I guess they are using this word to preclude any chance of discussion or disagreement with the participants. "You will learn how your personal identity is influenced by issues of genocide and human rights" Another indications that it is for Armenians only. "You will be able to express yourself more effectively on issues of genocide and human rights". Translation - you will be able to spew out on demand the views you have been "instructed" are true and PC, without any actual thought process being involved. Or am I being too cynical as usual? But there is certainly a place for discussing the validity of these sort of events. I think I'll use this as reason to dissect what took place this year in Britain's "(happy) Genocide Day". I'll write something here soon. Steve
Boghos
Steve, I think you are right as to the audience. But Zoryan always had this inward looking characteristic. I confess that I am not impressed with the way it is presented. But bear in mind that Zoryan is just a collection of New England Armenian fat-belly intellectuals, not a really professionally run place. PS: TB, I am sorry if you are one of them... Guest Fadi
Boghos... one of them, the director Dadrian is the best specialist in the word concerning genocide study... Hey guy's I also have my institute... and a progarm of one year Free for all those that want to study... :-)
Guest Fadi
Another thing, many criticise me, because my expected resource center on the web is still not compleated now for more then 2 years... they should at least take a look at Zoryan promessed site that is still not compleated for more then 4 years. When they have all the needed resources, and that I only have benevols to help me... Other then deciding to give courses of genocides, they should invest to finish their sites, and here I am also talking about ANI and others, I am doing their job, when they are supposed to exist for it. Boghos
Interesting summer programme organized by Zoryan at the University of Toronto. Dadrian will be there.http://www.zoryan.org/
Guest Fadi
While reading it, I was ready to register untill I have read this. "$2,000.00Cdn" Do they think that everyone is as reach to pay 2 thousand Canadian dollars for two weeks of study, I can buy all the works they suggest and read them all for even less then the half of the prize. Before taking a look at the prize, I thought it was a good idea for Turkish students to take these 2 weeks of course, then finishing it tell what they think of. There is no way that a student will pay that much for a course of two weeks, of course if he is reach, thats another story. here in Quebec, you pay that much for a University Minor program. PS: TB, I am sorry if you are one of them...You are trying to flatter me, aren't you? Nah, I fall comfortably in the "nobody" category. Sorry to dispel any mystique surrounding me. I am as "well-read" as any of them I suppose. And as for being an "intellectual", I would call that my part-time occupation only to the extent that I have sculpted a self-consistent view of reality, and that I enjoy thinking (the first criterion is susceptible to debate, but the second one is a certainty ). khodja
I still have the belly of a 25 year old, in my old age. It is not time upon which the size of the belly depends, but lifestyle. N.B. the big belly must be accompanied by the proverbial cigar.

However, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that I disclosed neither the time profile of the phenomenon nor its general trend, if any. Of course, you may have been commenting in a completely orthogonal sense. Time, though, is a legitimate variable, at least in the sense of being a "parametric variable" (isn't that always the case anyway?). That is, it represents everything else that is changing in your body as you age, as well as the changes in lifestyle. TB P.S. A few more posts in this direction, and we'll need to ask MosJan to move the belly-size posts to their own little topic.
khodja
TB, Thank you for clarifying your belly remarks. I remember well the Nasratin Khodja jokes my late Dad used to tell us, especially the one about the new bride. On her wedding night she removed her veil and showed her face to her new husband, Nasratin, who had never seen her face before. She asked him who she should show her face to. He replied that she could show her face to whomever she wished, EXCEPT to him. Are there any Nasratin stories about big bellies?
Boghos
I know a few Nasretin stories, but none about bellies. I take the opportunity to remind you of an interesting phenomenon among certain Armenians, that of the famous "Ramgavar belly". Dear hagarag, to conform with your stereotype I smoke cigars, have been doing so for 15 years. But no belly, just to make sure.
