Arpa
CELIBACY IMBECILACY-ԿՈՒՍԱԿՐՕՆՈՒԹԻՒՆ I had written the below sometime ago, during the height of the Papal imbroglio , I had virtually forgotten it until I saw the following saga. This and other such incidents . It begs the question if celibacy= pedophilia, as we all know that many such cases involve apparently “happily” married people, perhaps more than celibate priests.. Allow me to add. I don’t know if this case is as depicted or is it a witch hunt. It at least shows that we Armenians know the word “pedophilia”, and that it is not an exclusively alien disease.I can’t find it in dictionary. See what is used in the heading below.«Խիստ պատիժ ենք պահանջում մանկապիղծ ուսուցչի համար»Ah! The Homanishneri Bararan- Note that here, except for the two words in bold, it mainly points to homosexuality, assuming that pedophilia is always male v male, while many may be male v female, or in some cases female v male, and female v female. . ՄԱՆԿԱՄՈԼ= արուագէտ, արուամոլ, արուասէր, արուազեղծ, արուապիղծ, առնամոլ, մանկատրիփ, մանկապիղծ, մծղնեայ, տղալոլիկ---http://hetq.am/en/court/avagyan-3/Levon Avagyan, former Nubarashen teacher, to be sentenced on May 29According to the indictment levied against Levon Avagyan, a former teacher at the Nubarshen #11 School for Special Needs Children, during the period 1985-2008, he engaged in sexually illicit acts with adolescent and defenseless pupils at the school. However, during the current criminal case, only five girls have been registered as defendants. The Prosecuting Attorney has petitioned the court to sentence Avagyan to 1.5 years whilst the defense expects a sentence that does not require any prison time. The statement made by the Avagyan’s defense attorney of May 19 infuriated many of the spectators in the courtroom since he quoted from the bible, saying ‘whoever is without sin, let them cast the first stone against Avagyan’. In response, women in the court cried out, ”What are you trying to say, that we are all pedophiles?”…..---CELIBACY IMBECILACYFor those who may challenge this post, I have one question. Are you a son or a daughter of a “celibate priest”?The never go away debate about clergy (sexual) abuse in the Catholic Church will not go away until we get to the root of the problem. We don’t know about “clergy sexual abuse” in the Armenian church. Does that mean there is not?We have heard a million times that, homosexuality and pedophilia have nothing to do with “celibacy”, that many married people are homosexual and pedophiles. Does that mean a radical, I mean “radical circumcision”? Who are we kidding? Do not forget that those boys, so called celibate priests have appendages bigger than the lighthouse at “Pharos/phallus” in Alexandria/Iskandariya in Egypt.http://warandgame.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/pharosdali2.jpgWhen did all this begin? Were all those promoters of “celibacy “ so gynophobic. i.e terrified of the female ?When did Jesus promote it? And , as Him being “celibate” read about his “relation” with that “prostitute” Mary of Magdal/Magdalene, and extension of the concept of that temptress "evil Eve",i.e "Woman is fickle, La donna e moble"? http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/religion/2410209/postsAs to celibacy in the Armenian Church. It is at the present widely spread in Budhism and Christianity. This “celibacy” has been promoted by the Catholic church. In the Orthodox church celibacy is promoted while the “protestants” reject it. In the Armenian Church “celibacy” has its own particular “history and tradition”. The Illuminator Grigor was married just as his progeny St. Sahak. (We know that, as Vardan Mamikonean was his grandson, or was he His Son in law?)Both, Grigor and Sahak have been married until they became “celibate”. after they were consecrated as Caotholicoi. In the 5th C After the demise of St. Sahak “celibacy became a part of the “Canon”. It became mandatory for abegha, vardapet, bishop and Catholicos. The Qahanas were exempted There are more recent cases where married priests when they become(unmarried) widowed (not divorced) have taken the oath of celibacy, some have even become Catholicos. There is a living example of it as we speak. When did this “imbecilacy” at the Catholic Church begin? What does the bible say about celibacy?Celibacy is a state of being which may be voluntarily entered into in order to focus on God's work or it may be absolutely required during certain stages of life due to circumstance. For example, before marriage, celibacy is an absolute requirement. Or, when a spouse dies, the survivor must remain celibate until he or she remarries. However, there are special cases where a person may decide to be celibate in order to concentrate on the things of God. Christ is very clear, however, that this is not a requirement. One may serve God in any capacity while being married. One thing is certain, a sexual relationship outside marriage is strictly forbidden and such relationships will, if persisted in, keep one out of the Kingdom of God (See 1 Corinthians 6:9,10; Galatians 5:19-21)---In Matthew 19:10-12 Jesus says that celibacy (i.e. remaining unmarried) is a special gift that not everyone can manage.---1 Corinthians 7:1-9, 25-40, Paul says that it's fine to be idealistically commited to not marrying in order to devote one's life wholly to the service of God but if you can't handle it, you could be setting ourself up for spiritual disaster - we have seen how some churhes have had to deal with horrendous sins of fornication, adultery, and perversion because their priests were not able to contain their sexuality. Paul's practical advice: it is better to marry than to burn with passion.----1 Timothy 4:1-3 A focus on celibacy is a sign of the false church. Jesus' teaching is very balanced and is echoed by the other New Testament writers - To remain celibate for the Gospel's sake is a good thing but it is rare. Do not let your idealism put you into a situation in which your sexuality will inevitably lead you to sin. Marriage, although it brings complications and responsibilities which may, in some measure, distract you from the Lord's work, may open other doors of service in family life and will help to control express your sexuality in an appropriate way.Cambridge Christadelphians Edited May 24, 2010 by Arpa
