ՀՐԱԲՈՒԽ

The Armenian word for “volcano” which literally means “fire spewer/chimney/smoker” (Remember “boukherik= chimney). Note also that the Armenian word “բխելծբղխել/bkhel” as in water springing from a spring աշբիւր: One of the synonyms is ցայտել/tsaytel ցատկել/tsatkel as in “spring/leap”.

The latest dominant news is

Eyjafjallajokull volcano. And that its ashes have reached even as far as Yerevan.

Who can pronounce that Icelandic name, and what does it mean?

Some surmise that the name VAHAGN was derived from the Roman god “vulcan/valcan/vahagn” See Gavoukjian’s book Subartu….

Note below where it says “Na hoor her ouner… bots ouner morous“, Had hair of fire and beard of flame.** Btw. The Arabic word for volcano is “bourqan”, compare that with the Latin “vulcan” and, of course with the Armenian “Vahagn“.

The reason why Vahagn is described as having “red/flaming” hair.

Երկնէր երկին, երկնէր երկիր,

Երկն ի ծովուն ունէր եւ զկարմրիկն եղեգնիկ.

Եղեգնի փողով բոց էր ելնում

Եվ բոցից դուրս էր վազում

Մի խարտեաշ պատանեկիկ:

Նա հուր մազեր ուներ, (ապա թե`)

Բոց մորուք ուներ,

Masis Sar is a volcanic mountain , born of volcano that has been dormant for time immemorial, when will it wake up and erupt once again? Lake Sevan is in fact a volcanic crater.

Ararat is a dormant volcano; the last eruption was on June 2, 1840. At present the upper third of the mountain is covered with snow all the time; the last hundred meters of snow at the top have turned to ice. For on the mountain, fresh running water is available after the sun has been up a while to melt the snow, but it is cut off in the late afternoon when cold air has overcome the heat of the sun. Below the snow the slopes are covered with great blocks of black basalt rock, some as large as village houses.

**Btw some amateur translators(Tolegian) whose knowledge of the Armenian language may be questionably limited have translated “երկներ” as “turbulent”, which in fact means “parturition” when one (մէկ)pregnant woman becomes two (երկու), Hence the word “erkoung/երկունք “ which at times is interpreted as “suffering/nightmare”. “Երկնէր երկին, երկնէր երկիր,”

Means “Heaven has parted , Earth has parted” (as in parturition/birthing, when one becomes two երկու/ երկունք).
