Today is May 21, the 92nd anniversary of the Battle of Sardarapat without which there would not be an Armenia as we know today. "Iriwan" would be a suburb of istanBULLL

Poem by Paruyr Sevak, music by Edgar Hovannesian.

===

Battle of Sardarapat

The Battle of Sardarapat (Armenian: Սարդարապատի ճակատամարտ, Sardarapati č̣akatamart) was a battle of the Caucasus Campaign of World War I that took place near Sardarapat (modern-day Armavir), Armenia from May 21 to May 29, 1918. Sardarapat was only 40 kilometers west of the city of Yerevan (Erevan) and the battle is currently seen as not only stopping the Turkish advance into the rest of Armenia but also preventing the complete destruction of the Armenian nation.[2] In the words of historian and researcher Christopher J. Walker, had the Armenians lost this battle, "it is perfectly possible that the word Armenia would have henceforth denoted only an antique geographical term

Jemal ***** was one of the two main strongmen of Talaat. He was one of the key figures in carrying out the Armenian Genocide; he fled to Germany, too and was sentenced to death in 1919. Then he had served as Military attaché in Afghanistan for the period of 1920-1922.
When returning to Turkey from there, on July 25, 1922 the Armenian revenge takers Petros Ter Poghosyan and Artashes Gevorgyan enforced his death verdict in Tiflis.
