ARTSAKH WILL CELEBRATE 770TH ANNIVERSARY OF GANDZASAR'S CATHEDRAL OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST

 

In 2010, . The program of celebratory events was drawn up at the committee sitting led by Archbishop Pargev Martirosyan, Head of the Diocese of Artsakh. A number of cultural and educational programs, including exhibitions, concerts and a scientific conference, are featured in the program. Gandzasar’s most important structure is the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist built between 1216 and 1238. The foundations of the Cathedral were laid by Prince Hasan Jalal Vahtangian the Magnificent, who called himself the “Supreme Potentate” of Artsakh’s largest and strongest Principality of Khachen

ON THE OCCASION OF THE 770TH ANNIVERSARY OF ANOINTMENT ...

  ...of Hovahannes Mkrtich Church On March 18th by the decision of the NKR government, a governmental commission of organization of celebrations devoted to the 770th anniversary of anointment of st. Hovhannes Mkrtich Church of Gandzasar abbey was created, and the NKR vice-premier, minister of finances Spartak Tevosyan has been pointed the chair of the commission. On March 30, the first session of the commission took place held by the primate of Artsakh Diocese of Armenian Apostolic Church, archbishop Pargev Martirosyan. Questions were discussed at the session connected with programs of solemn arrangements and working out of estimate of coming expenses. As a result of discussions the main points of the program were decided. Particularly it was decided to declare the year of Gandzasar, during which it is foreseen to organize arrangements of scientific and enlightenmental character, special exhibitions and trips, to publish booklets and so on. It is foreseen to carry out scientific council by participation of Armenologists, historians and architectures of NKR, Armenian and Diaspora. On July 10, in the circles of the program a solemn meeting and concert will take place in Stepanakert, next day the ceremonies will be in Gandzasar.
