Conspiracy theory in Eurovision: Turkey claims genocide hint in Armenia's «Apricot stone»

Rivas’s Apricot Stone is accused of ‘having political context’.

By Gayane Abrahamyan

ArmeniaNow reporter

Eva Rivas’s winning song to present Armenia at Eurovision 2010 this May in Oslo has raised a wave of protest in Turkey, which claims that Armenia’s song has “a political context hinting at the Armenian Genocide.”

According to Anadolu (Anatolian) News Agency (Turkey), composer Yagoub Mutlu, who was at the Armenian national selection final concert ( February 14) said that Rivas’s ‘Apricot Stone’ apparently hinted at 1915 events.

The Turkish composer quoting the lyrics of the song, clarifies that “Many, many years ago

when I was a little child,

our world is cruel and wild,

but to make your way

through cold and heat love

is all that you need”

sentence apparently recalls about deportation of Armenians by Ottoman Turkey in 1915 and ways they have passed.

“And the word ‘homeland’ mentioned several times in the chorus, means Turkish territories,” Mutlu says.

The lyrics of Rivas’ song, which won Armenian ‘Eurovision 2010’ song contest is written by Moscow-based Karen Kavaleryan, and according to Rivas’ PR manager Hayk Markosyan, he has not intended to hint at the genocide at all.

“The song has nothing to do with the Armenian genocide, and it does not have a political context. The song simply presents the Armenian culture, the Armenian traditions, the apricot, which is just an Armenian fruit and it is the symbol of Armenia, and the thoughts of a young (Armenian) woman who lived far from the homeland for years,” Markosyan told ArmeniaNow.

There is no low low enough for Turks.

Omar Harfouch accuses Azerbaijan of falsifying results of 2010 Eurovision Song Contest

May 30, 2010 - 15:50 AMT 10:50 GMT

PanARMENIAN.Net - French businessman of Syrian descent Omar Harfouch has accused Azerbaijan of falsifying the voting results of 2010 Eurovision Song Contest, French journalist Jean Eckian told to PanARMENIAN.Net with reference to the French website - jeanmarcmorandini.com - specializing in broadcast of information on television.

Omar Harfouch said in an exclusive interview to jeanmarcmorandini.com that Azerbaijan exerted pressure on jurors of several countries, paying bribes through Azerbaijani embassies in these countries. According to Omar Harfouch, the bribes total sum amounted to $20mln.

On May 29, Oslo hosted the 55th Eurovision Song Contest, which brought together representatives of 39 countries. Germany's Lena Mayer-Landrut was announced the contest winner with 246 points. Meanwhile, Armenia's Eva Rivas was the seventh with 141 points and Azerbaijan's Safura Alizadeh was the fifth with 145 points.

The following was translated from German with Google Translate. It says that Armenia won the most popular votes.

Voting procedure

Lena is in accordance with the wishes of the audience only second

Monday 31 May 2010 03:06

She has won superior - but has the sole voting procedure of the 19-year-old helped to victory.

According to a statistical calculation of Maracon Institute from Bonn had not landed Armenia and Germany in the first place - the winner would have been directly elected by the people. Each country assigns its points 1:00 to 12:00 for the other countries. After that Lena has received from the 30 voting countries 246 points, only five countries, they got no points and was nine times twelve points, well ahead of the next country (Denmark).

But the voices of 319 000 Icelanders here weigh as heavy as the more than 142 million Russians. If we add the points of each country (58) in percentage at (one point = 1.72 percent) and multiplying the percentage of the population, so to speak, to get a "fair" value. Lena was therefore 76.76 million fans in Europe, and that 9.82 percent of the population. Armenia - in the original rating only in seventh place with 141 points - but now takes over first place with 81.48 million fans and 10.42 percent of voting countries.

Reason for the twelve-point rating from Russia (29.73 million fans that already is). The points from Germany to the Armenians 9.89 million fans. Biggest Losers for this calculation is Denmark (formerly Fourth, now tenth), the biggest jump of 18 makes Portugal on the twelfth. The British, however, remain even after this calculation on the last Platz.BM

Yes, I know who they are (or were). You knew them?

Do you know the difference between Big Eyes(goezuboeyukian) and  (big ass/big buttocks/vorik/goetuboeyukian?)

............? No, I don't know the difference between eyes and butts.

Getting back to topic, I really think that Armenia was screwed over. Why is it that the countries who have always given Armenia high scores (8, 10, or 12), like France, Greece, Cyprus, Belgium and some others, did not do so this year and last year (when the jury vote was introduced)? All the other countries did their routine 12 point exchanges with their allies even with the presence of the national juries. This would mean that both, the population and the national jury, gave 12 points each and the way how it works is: (12+12)50%=12. So if an entire country's population voted for Armenia (which would be 12 points), but the jury only gave 3 points, then (12+3)50%=7.5, that country would've only given Armenia 7 points (it's rounded down). So Azerbaijan, through its embassies, has sent officials to the juries of those countries that have traditionally given Armenia the most points to bribe and/or pressure them to vote for Azerbaijan and not for Armenia. I DEMAND AN INVESTIGATION!!

You may have noticed that I have not participated in the discussions about that idiotic “shuwoh” aka , Eurovision. Why are they all singing armglish, russglish, furkglish, aseeriglish, germanglish?

Who the hell is Eva Rivas? Not that she is any better or worse than thosez othezrv idiots, the likes of վոռշարժ Andre and Sirusho(Kele?/ A piece of garbage) I thought she was singing Komitas' "Kele, kele Kelkit Mernem". Why is she representing Armenia? Where does she live? She should be shot for desecrating such a sacred Armenian word “Apricot/Ծիրան-ի”

Eva Rivas (Armenian: Եվա Ռիվաս, Russian: Ева Ривас) (born Valeriya Reshetnikova-Tsaturyan[1] on 13 July 1987 in Rostov-on-Don, USSR) is a Russian-Armenian singer

Early life

Tsaturyan was born and raised in Russia to an Armenian mother and a father of Russian and Greek ancestry. She took the stage name Eva Rivas from her Greek great-grandmother.[2]

This brings us to all that zibil/trash/garbage** posted by a one known as Vahegyan. Why is he still airing furkish zibil under a secred topic of Music? I have not responded to him as well, just as no one else. OK, we know, he also aired Komitas, unless he thinks Komitas is a furkish composer. Take a look at his posts and tell us which is Armenian. The latest being that furko-idiot dinkjioghlu. Please tell us which of his tunes are Armenian. Disgusting! I have seen dinkjioghlu in person, and I could not run to bathroom fast enough to THROW UP. If they think oud and dumbek are Armenian instruments, then they should be flagellated at their dumb ass.
