Armenian linguistics project

Hi all,

 

I'm a graduate student in linguistics living and studying in Montreal. I am currently working on a language acquisition research project with a focus on Armenian (more specifically Eastern Armenian) and I am looking for participants. I've decided to post on this forum because it seems to be pretty famous among Armenian-speakers. I hope it won't be considered as advertisement by the moderators, but this isn't any kind of business proposal, it's for research.

A little more about the project:

 

First of all, I am looking for people who reside in Montreal as it is important to meet face to face for these tests.

I am looking for two type of Armenian speakers:

1. native Eastern Armenian speakers who rarely use Armenian in every day life.

2. native Eastern Armenian speakers who speak almost exclusively Armenian in every day life and do not speak another language very well.

 

I realize that the 2nd type is going to be a lot harder to find outside of Armenia, as Armenians in general seem to be very good in foreign languages. However, I thought I'd put it out there and may be you know someone?

 

You will be paid for your time by my linguistics department (McGill University). If you fit one of these profiles or know someone who does, email me and I'll let you know all the relevant details. The tests themselves consist of simple answers to written questions in Eastern Armenian and should not take longer than 30 minutes.

P.S. There is also a possibility that I will need someone to help me translate my tests into Eastern Armenian. I have a translator who is helping me now, but she's been rather busy lately so it'd be nice to have a back up. For this you don't have to be in Montreal and you won't be paid. But may be you know what linguistics is all about and you translate as a hobby? I don't think it should be too hard as these tests don't make use of any big words or complicated syntax.
