Arpa
Harebrained/hairbrained?ՄԱԶԱՄԻՏ**Harem-brained?Note that the word is a variation of “Hair brained”, while “hare” is another word for rabbit, some people’s brain is even smaller than that of a rabbit.Who knows the song -Չեմ, չեմ, չեմ կարող խաղալ: Մազերուս, մազերուս ծանրութենէն չեմ կարող խաղալ”?Listen to Aram K’s Gayeneh.adj.Foolish; flighty: a harebrained scheme.USAGE NOTE The first use of harebrained dates to 1548. The spelling hairbrained also has a long history, going back to the 1500s when hair was a variant spelling of hare. The hair variant was preserved in Scotland into the 18th century, and as a result it is impossible to tell exactly when people began writing hairbrained in the belief that the word means "having a hair-sized brain" rather than "with no more sense than a hare." While hairbrained continues to be used and confused, it should be avoided in favor of harebrained which has been established as the correct spelling.Yesterday I was at a clip joint to have my “ears loaded”, a euphemism of having a haircut. While the young lady was clipping away my hair there walked a woman, her hair covered with a piece of rag, I mean the hair on her head. The young lady haircutter invited her to a chair that was in full view , there was some delay, she, still with that rag over her head was arguing about the chair that was in full view. Right away I knew what the ado was about. The young haircutter lady escorted her to an inner room away from view, and after a while she came out, asked my cutter to come in, as it seemed she did not understand the whole nonsense. I don’t know what the whole fuss was about. I could only guess. Is there a “harem” barber shop in America? We are so lucky that she did not come with a band of “lifeguards” armed with guns and daggers. Sons and daughters of bitches! Why don’t they go back to the harem, back to their "cunt"ry? I don’t know how it ended, neither am I interested. Who is interested in their hair?***How come the mullahs don’t cover pubic, I mean public their hair?http://images.dailyradar.com/media/uploads/beltway/story_preview/2009/12/13/student_protesters_deny_burning_khomeini_photos.jpg http://www.textually.org/textually/archives/images/set3/mullah2_wideweb__470x382,2.jpgRemember that most of the (whichever hair, be it above or below the waist) haircutter/barbers in the harems were Armenian with surnames like “berberian”.I do remember anecdotes from Aleppo that when a muslim woman would hear footsteps she would raise her skirt to cover her head, and in so doing would expose her ……hair.** Մազապուրծ. Note that this word means barely “saved by a hair”.*** When I was very young, I would be embarrassed when deaf people would speak with their hands, and instead of pointing to their hair to mean “girl” they would cup their hands at their chests. What is so sacredly taboo about hair? Are we going back to the fable of Samsun or Rapunzel ?, http://www.eastoftheweb.com/short-stories/UBooks/Rapu.shtml Edited January 9, 2010 by Arpa
