CIS Summit To Be Held In Moscow

 

YEREVAN (Armenpress)—The CIS presidents and prime ministers will meet in Moscow on June 21 over an agenda of anti-terrorist

programs and wide-ranging cooperation.

 

The CIS leaders will discuss programs of fighting international terrorism until the year 2005, creation of a free trade zone and documents

proposed by the CIS Economic Council and the CIS Council of Defense Ministers.

 

The agenda has a total of 22 items concerning CIS cooperation. Observers say the summit could discuss Russia's intention to withdraw

from the 1992 Bishkek agreement on visa-less movement of CIS citizens.

 

Presidents Vladimir Putin, Edward Shevardnadze, Robert Kocharian and Heydar Aliyev, will meet on the summit's sidelines.

 

They will discuss regional cooperation, conflict settlement and creation of an anti-terrorist center.

 

Armenia has no objections concerning the agenda of the upcoming CIS summit opening in Moscow, said presidential spokesman Vahe

Gabriyelyan.

 

He added "Armenia attaches special significance to the creation of a free trade zone and welcomes any progress in this field".

 

Armenian President Robert Kocharian will fly to Moscow to take part in a session of the Council of the CIS Heads of State.

 

Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet his counterparts of the three Transcaucasian republics in Moscow today, presidential

spokesman Vahe Gabriyelyan said.

 

The spokesman said that the presidents will discuss the peaceful settlement of conflicts in the South Caucasus, the strengthening of

security in the region and cooperation in fighting international terrorism and humanitarian relations.

 

On the same day, Armenian President Robert Kocharian will meet his Azerbaijani counterpart Heydar Aliyev for talks on the

Nagorno-Artsax settlement and bilateral relations.
