Arpa
Pres. Obama in LITTLE ARMENIA No, no not Glendale but the real and original Little Armenia, Troy, NY, which also the birthplace of UNCLE SAM**. There is a connection here. See Levonian Borothers Meat Packing co. Tomorrow, Monday about noon Pres. Obama will be at the HVCC in Troy. The audience is by invitation only. This morning it was finally confirmed that Mayor Harry was also invited. There may have been a little partisanship, as Harry is a republican. At one time Troy, along with NY, Boston and Detroit had a large Armenian population, it still does in a way as all three Armenia churches are located there, just as successful businesses like the Mooradian fine furniture stores and the Levonian meat packing. http://blog.timesunion.com/business/tutunj...a-invite/15354/ Harry Tutunjian Troy Mayor Harry Tutunjian has scored an invitation to Monday’s Obama visit at Hudson Valley Community College. Earlier this morning, mayoral spokesperson Jeffrey Pirro let it be known that Tutunjian would love to attend the event, but had not yet been invited. “This is Troy. He’s coming to the Troy area. And the mayor would like to be a part of it,” Pirro said. “It’s not everyday you get to show off your city to the president of the United States. It’s a pretty big deal.” Shortly after, the White House e-mailed and invited Tutunjian to the event. “The Mayor will enthusiastically be accepting,” Pirro said. This morning the mayor was featured on a local YV program where he confirmed the news. He confirmed that he would meet and shake hands with President ahead of his speech, he said, beside the usual local politics and business he would- “I, being an Armenian American , will thank him for all he’s done for the Armenian Community and urge him to pursue the Genocide recognition”. ---- BTW. Harry’s father, successful business owner was born to Aintabtsi parents in Aleppo, at the Armenian enclave where LTP was also born. ** http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncle_Sam Edited September 20, 2009 by Arpa
