MosJan
YEREVAN TO GET WATER THROUGH GRAVITY SYSTEM YEREVAN, DECEMBER 3, ARMENPRESS: Five companies, all from abroad, have submitted official bids for participation in a tender for supply of pipes for construction of a new water pipeline from Garni-some 20 miles off the capital, to Yerevan. The new water line is supposed to supply water to the capital through the so-called gravity system. The project is a component of a $10 million worth World Bank loan for development of Armenian communities. Currently some 1,800 liters are supplied per second, of which 600 liters go through a separate pipeline to the town of Ashtarak and the rest is supplied to the capital. Of this 600 liters go through gravity system, the rest is pumped out and a total of 8 million 760,000 kWh are needed for it annually. The results of the bidding will be announced in a week. Construction, in all likelihood, will kick off next April or May. Another tender will be announced earlier next year for the construction of the water pipeline.
