AZERBAIJAN INTENDS TO RAISE THE QUESTION OF EXPEDIENCY OF CLOSING ARMENIAN ATOMIC POWER STATION IN PACE

06.02.2002

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Baku has found a new way to press on Yerevan. Azerbaijan intends to initiate discussion of the necessity to close the Armenian atomic power station at the session of PACE Ecology Committee. As it is known, EU experts express uneasiness regarding the security of the nuclear plant. Meanwhile, official Yerevan does not consider it possible to close the nuclear station, as the low primary cost of the electric power generated by the plant lets restrain the price of the electricity sold to the customers and thus support the domestic industry. Provoking discussion of the question that the Armenian nuclear power plant is dangerous in ecological sense, Azerbaijan aims at striking the Armenian economy. It is known that raising the tariffs for electricity, which will certainly take place if the atomic station is closed, can make the Armenian goods not competitive at the international market.
