Arpa
This may end up very bad news for us. ----- 168 reportedly killed in Iran plane crash By ALI AKBAR DAREINI, Associated Press Writer Ali Akbar Dareini, Associated Press Writer 1 hr 4 mins ago TEHRAN, Iran – An Iranian passenger plane carrying 168 people crashed a quarter-hour after takeoff Wednesday, smashing into a field northwest of the capital and shattering to pieces. State television said all on board were killed. The impact gouged a deep trench in the dirt field, which was shown littered with smoking wreckage in footage shown on state TV. It showed a large chunk of a wing, but much of the wreckage appeared to be in small pieces, and emergency workers and witnesses picked around the shredded metal for bodies. The Russian-made Caspian Airlines jet was heading from Tehran to the Armenian capital Yerevan near the village of Jannatabad outside the city of Qazvin, around 75 miles northwest of Tehran, state television said. It crashed at about 11:30 am, 16 minutes after taking off from Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport, TV reported. The Qazvin emergency services director Hossein Bahzadpour told the IRNA news agency that the plane was completely destroyed and shattered to pieces, and the wreckage was in flames. "It his highly likely that all the passengers on the flight were killed," Bahzadpour said. Iranian Civil Aviation Organization spokesman Reza Jafarzadeh told state television that 153 passengers and 15 crewmembers were on board. State TV said all were killed. A Caspian Airlines representative told AP in Yerevan that most of the passengers were Armenians, and that some Georgian citizens were also on board. The representative spoke on condition of anonymity because she was not authorized to talk to the press. Also among the passengers were eight members of Iran's national youth judo team, along with two trainers and a delegation chief, who were scheduled to train with the Armenian judo team before attending competitions in Hungary on Aug. 6, state TV said. Caspian Airlines is a Russian-Iranian joint venture founded in 1993. Iran has frequent plane crashes often because of bad maintenance of its aging aircraft. Tehran blames the problem in part on U.S. sanctions that prevent Iran from getting spare parts for some planes. Caspian Airlines, however, uses Russian-made Tupolevs whose maintenance would be less impaired by American sanctions. In February 2006, a Russian-made TU-154 operated by Iran Airtour, which is affiliated with Iran's national carrier, crashed during landing in Tehran, killing 29 of the 148 people on board. Another Airtour Tupolev crashed in 2002 in the mountains of western Iran, killing all 199 on board. The crashes have also affected Iran's military. In December 2005, 115 people were killed when a U.S.-made C-130 plane, crashed into a 10-story building near Tehran's Mehrabad airport. In Nov. 2007, a Russian-made Iranian military plane crashed shortly after takeoff killing 36 members of the elite Revolutionary Guards. ___ AP writer Avet Demourian in Yerevan, Armenia, contributed to this report

MosJan
All feared dead in Iran air crash http://english.aljazeera.net/mritems/Images//2009/7/15/2009715124624599734_5.gif The aircraft crashed near the Iranian city of Qazvin, just minutes after taking off [AFP] A Caspian Airlines jet carrying 168 people has crashed in northwest Iran, killing all those on board, Iran's state media has said. The aircraft had been flying from Tehran to Yerevan, the Armenian capital, when it crashed near the Iranian city of Qazvin on Wednesday. Mohammad Reza Montazer Khorasan, the head of the disaster management centre at Iran's health ministry, said: "All people aboard ... the crashed plane are dead. The plane had 153 passengers and 15 crew members." Kieran Daly of Air Transport Intelligence told Al Jazeera the crash had "a devastating impact to the ground, which suggests that either the aircraft was completely out of control and unflyable ... or that for some reason the pilot flew inadvertently into the ground". Witnesses said the plane exploded after it dropped out of the sky and television images showed a crater at the disaster site littered with aircraft debris, as well as shoes and clothes. Reports of fire Masoud Jafari Nasab, Qazvin's police chief, told IRNA news agency: "The passenger plane was completely destroyed and the wreckage was scattered everywhere." http://english.aljazeera.net/mritems/Images//2009/7/15/2009715124724460580_3.gif The crash is the worst air disaster in Iran in recent years [AFP] A police officer was also quoted by Iran's ISNA news agency as saying that some witnesses had reported that the plane was on fire in mid-air. Armenian television reported that the crash was caused by an engine fire, but did not provide any sources. Daly said that recovering the "black box" flight recorder would be crucial in helping to identify the cause. "It may be the case that the pilot had said there was an existing fault with the aircraft ... which will point investigators to the cause." Daly said Caspian Airlines had a safety record of "varying quality". "It has a good statistical record but because it has been around for such a short time and is so small [that] doesn't say very much," he said. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran's president, has ordered the transport ministry to launch an inquiry. Previous crashes Nasab said the Caspian Airlines Tupolev had crashed in farmland near the village of Janat Abad. http://english.aljazeera.net/mritems/Images//2009/7/15/200971592431957337_3.jpg Flight 7908 went down 16 minutes after take-off from Tehran's Imam Khomeini international airport - at 11:33am (07:03 GMT). The crash is one of Iran's worst aviation disasters. In December 2005, 108 people were killed when a Lockheed C-130 transport plane crashed into the base of a high-rise housing block outside the Iranian capital. Twenty-nine people were killed in September 2006 when an aircraft came off the runway after landing in the eastern city of Mashhad and burst into flames. In November that year, a military plane crashed on takeoff at Tehran's Mehrabad airport, killing all 39 people on board.

Ten members of the country's youth judo team were aboard the Caspian Airlines plane, several sources including Press TV reported. The network said the dead included eight athletes and two coaches. The plane "disintegrated into pieces," said Col. Masood Jafari Nasab, security commander of the city of Qazvin, close to the crash site. Video of the crash site showed a huge crater in the earth scattered with charred pieces of the plane and tattered passports. "The aircraft all of a sudden fell out of the sky and exploded on impact, where you see the crater," a witness told Press TV from the crash site. Sirous Saberi, the deputy governor of Qazvin province, said military forces are searching for the plane's data recorder and cockpit voice recorder to determine the cause of the crash, Press TV said. The Russian-made Tupolev plane went down near the village of Jannatabad near Qazvin at 11:33 am on Wednesday, the station reported. http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/img/2.0/mosaic/tabs/video.gif Watch images of crash site » Qazvin Police Chief Hossein Behzadpour and Mohammad Reza Montazer Khorasan, the head of the disaster management center in Iran's health ministry, both confirmed that all 168 people on board were killed in the crash, Press TV reported Qazvin is the largest city in the province of Qazvin and is its capital, with an estimated population of 330,000. It is about 140 kilometers (90 miles) northwest of Tehran, the capital of Iran. The Iranian newspaper Hamshahri reported that the plane was flying from Tehran and was headed to Yerevan, Armenia. http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/img/2.0/mosaic/tabs/map.gif See map of the crash location » The semi-official Mehr news agency listed the names of 153 passengers and 15 crew members. At least 42 of the names appeared to be Armenian, but it was not clear if they were from the former Soviet republic or if they were ethnically Armenian citizens of Iran. The plane -- identified as flight number 7908 -- crashed 16 minutes after takeoff, said the newspaper, quoting a spokesman from Iran's civil aviation organization. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad expressed his condolences to the victims' families, as did the European Union in a statement. Media reports said the type of aircraft involved in the crash was a Tupolev 154. The three-engine Tupolev 154 is the aging workhorse of Russia's commercial fleet, at one time carrying about half of all Russian air passengers. It was designed as the Soviet counterpart to the Boeing 727 and the European-made Trident, but with the added ability to operate from short, rough runways. About 1,000 were produced. Although a popular aircraft, it has had a checkered history and has been involved in about 30 air disasters since it was created in 1968. Aviation analyst Kieran Daly told CNN said numerous Tupolevs have been lost since the aircraft was introduced in the 70s. http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/img/2.0/mosaic/tabs/video.gif Watch Daly talk about air crash » "Having said that there were many of them built, and they have been in service in quite difficult parts of the world for a very long time. But there have been a lot of these Tupolev 154s lost, quite a few in Iran." The last plane crash in Iran involving a Tupolev plane occurred in 2006, according to the Web site airdisaster.com. That crash occurred on an Iran Air Tour flight from the port city of Bandar Abbas; it crashed and caught fire during landing, the Web site reported. Twenty-nine of the 147 people on board died in that crash.

MosJan
List of deaths fixed No details are reported on the crashed plane in northwestern Iran. The plane of Caspian Airlines was heading from Tehran to Yerevan when it crashed 16 minutes after takeoff. All the 168 passengers abroad are reportedly dead. There were two children among the passengers. Arlen Davudian, representative of Caspian Airlines in Yervan, told A1+ that the Company could give no information unless the black box was found. The plane had been checked before the flight. 25-26 of thepassengers are said to be Armenians, others Iranians. Special headquarters have been opened at the airports of Iran and Armenia. Numerous doctors work at Zvartnots Airport who render assistance to the victims' relatives. Names of the 129 victims are fixed on the walls. MosJan
Was air crash caused by fire? Thirty-five Armenians were reportedly on board the Tu 154 flying from Tehran to Yerevan. There were six Armenian citizens on board - Ashot Nersisian, Arthur Grigorian, Karine Margarian, Ara Simonian, Grigor Barseghian and Suren Soghomonian. The last two Armenians worked in Caspian Airlines Company as the best technicians. The other 29 Armenian passengers had Iranian citizenship. "We cannot speak of the causes unless the black box is found," Deputy Head of the Armenian Chief Aviation, Arsen Poghosian, told a press conference today. "The plane is said to have fallen down near Gazvin. There are a few airports near the city and it is not excluded that the crew was attempting to land. The plane took off at 12.02 and was scheduled to land in Armenia at 12.52. At 12.48 the Iranian side informed us that the plane had been lost sight of," said Arsen Poghosian. "It is quite possible as a crew can do nothing if a fire breaks out in the engine," said Serob Karapetian, a senior representative of the Aviation. Caspian Airlines makes 13 flights from Tehran a week. The crashed plane was to take 43 passengers to Iran. http://www.a1plus.am/en/society/2009/07/15/armenians

Arpa
Before we "burn the witch"! Just in case some of us may jump to conclusions that this whole thing was because the craft was Russian made, see what a commentator at Armenia Now wrote; I wouldn't immediately jump to concussions that this tragedy happened strictly because of sanctions and the use of Russian TU-154. Tu-154 is one of the most used airplanes in the world, and Iran is free to purchase new aircraft from Russia. According to wikipedia TU-154 article: "After the Tu-154 had been in service for 26 years (1998) and logged 21 million flight hours, it had a better than average safety record (1.7 times fewer incidents than the world average [iCAO stats])." Moreover, it's not like Western aircraft never crash. For example, let me remind you of Air France Flight 447, which crashed into Atlantic Ocean only one month ago, killing 228 people. It was an Airbus 330. Also remember the Yemenia Airways Flight 626 that crashed on June 30 on its way from San'a, Yemen, to Comoros. It was an Airbus A310. Or is it because the Iranian air inspection agency is run by this idiot, who cannot see beyond his stupid skirt, his unshaven face or his abbreviated “male organ”?? IDIOTS!!!! http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_u3lFqBksmrE/Rhi8...nIM/s400/0i.jpg Why are all our neighbors, have been such IDIOTS!!! IDIOTS!! They don’t even know their own language. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_dTKNe1TKYsQ/STdn...Dec-08+copy.jpg Allahu Akbar, Inshallah, Mashallah Arabic الله أَكْبَر Transliteration Allahu Akbar, allāhu akbar Translation God is great Wrong!!! Just in the case of “jihad” interpreted as “holy war” even by them , it simply means “struggle/endeavor/պայքար/ջանք”. As in this case “akbar”is a comparative/superlative adjective based on “kabeer/great“, i.e “greater/greatest” “Greater” than who? “Greatest” of which? You mean "Greater" than Astuats? Arpa
This is eerie, jus as it is SAD!. Look up and see how many Armenian names you see, even if some of them may be corrupted and obscured. I said eerie, scary. Look above 1. Ramon Torosyan 2. Christina Ter-Hovhanisyan 3. Teymuri Naser I had a colleague Christine Teymuri. Turned out she was born in a Christian family in India and her name was Christine John. Now married to a Muslim Iranian with the surname Teymuri. How much more Christian can one be with a name like Christine, she did make a point of that?
