YEREVAN, OCTOBER 26, ARMENPRESS. The Azerbaijani army has been unable to break the front line on October 26, ARMENPRESS reports representative of the MoD Armenia Artsrun Hovhannisyan said in a press conference.

''Today early in the morning the Azerbaijani armed forces, reinforced by terrorist groups and military units of other countries, launched a large-scale offensive in the south-eastern direction, as the same time bombing the cities of Artsakh. During the entire day they were unable to break through the front line. In some places they seemed to record some success, but our units were able to gain back the positions by a counter-attack. During the same period in the forests north of Hadrut our units continued searching and neutralizing the subversive groups. Some subversive groups fled, abandoning their cars, but clashes continue in some other villages’', Hovhannisyan said, adding that the works to detect and neutralize the subversive groups continue in Shekher, Jivanik and some other nearby villages.

Artsrun Hovhannisyan added that yesterday evening the Azerbaijani army was able to occupy Kubatli, coming close to the gates of Syunik Province of Armenia, but the situation is not critical.

‘'Today some world leading special units fled as a result of a counter-attack of an Armenian general and private soldier’', Hovhanisyan said.

October 26, 2020 - 21:11 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net - Anna Hakobyan, the wife of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, has revealed that a 13-strong female squad, including herself, will be enlisting to defend the borders of Nagorno-Karabakh.

"A squad of 13 women, including myself, will start military training tomorrow. We'll leave for defending the borders of our homeland in several days," Hakobyan said Monday, October 26.

Also Monday, Pashinyan urged Armenians to join the army and fight Azerbaijan's aggression against Karabakh. His son too has joined the Karabakh army as a volunteer, only months after completing his two-year compulsory military service.

Azerbaijan, with help from Turkey and Syrian and Libyan mercenaries deployed by Ankara, started a war against Karabakh (Artsakh) in the morning of September 27. The Armenian side has reported deaths and injuries both among the civilian population and the military. Foreign and local journalists too have been injured in Azeri shelling of towns and villages.

1032752.jpg 09:54, 26 October, 2020

STEPANAKERT, OCTOBER 26, ARMENPRESS. Azerbaijan violated the humanitarian ceasefire for the third time, which Artsakh’s presidential spokesperson Vahram Poghosyan described as “the Aliyev regime’s overt brazen attitude towards the entire civilized humanity.”

“Appropriate conclusions will yet be drawn from this overt brazen behavior displayed by the Aliyev regime towards the entire civilized humanity, but today the objective of us all is to protect our country from the [enemy]. They didn’t leave us an alternative, while this only path should lead us solely to victory,” Poghosyan said.

The Azerbaijani military violated the new humanitarian ceasefire agreement just 45 minutes into the deal and launched artillery attacks at Artsakh’s military positions in the north-eastern direction, the Armenian Defense Ministry spokesperson Shushan Stepanyan said.

“Grossly violating the ceasefire agreement reached in the USA, starting from 8.45 a.m. today Azerbaijani armed forces opened artillery fire at the positions of Artsakh’s Defense Army in north-eastern direction,” Stepanyan said in a statement.

Another Azeri violation took place at 09:10. Azerbaijani forces fired 5 artillery shells at the Artsakh positions in the south-eastern direction.

Trump’s remarks hinted potential US recognition of Artsakh independence, Armenian top lawmakers say

1032756.jpg 10:36, 26 October, 2020

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 26, ARMENPRESS. Parliament Majority Leader of Armenia Lilit Makunts, who is also the Chair of the Armenia-United States parliamentary friendship group, says she believes that the October 25 remarks by US President Donald Trump in New Hampshire on Armenians and Artsakh is a hint for a potential recognition of Artsakh by the United States.

Armenian Parliament Deputy Speaker Alen Simonyan is of the same opinion.

“Donald Trump today hinted in New Hampshire that the United States could recognize the independence of Artsakh,” the Armenian lawmakers said and quoted Trump’s speech.

“Armenia, you know Armenia? We’re working on that. You know we’re working. We did it with Kosovo and Serbia. Do you believe I got three nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize? Can you believe it,” Trump said in a campaigning event in New Hampshire when one of the speakers said “Armenia for Trump”.

“So now we have Armenia. Look at the Armenia. They are incredible people. They’re fighting like hell, right? They’re fighting like hell. And you know what? We’re going to get something done because, thank you. And I love you, too. You know the Armenians have had a tough go. In fact, I was in yesterday, Ohio, actually. I was in Ohio because I went to various stops. But in Ohio we had a tremendous group of Armenians with the flag and the whole thing, the spirit. And the problems that they have and the death and the fighting and everything else, we’ll get that straightened out. I call that an easy one. Okay? We’ll get that. Go back and tell your people. Go back and tell your people. All right? We’ll get that straightened out. Armenia. Why not? It’s easy. If you know what you’re doing, it’s like that. If you know what you’re doing, it’s easy. But we will,” he continued.

Erdogan’s and Aliyev’s policy a direct blow to image of Putin, Trump and Macron– political scientist

1032771.jpg 12:34, 26 October, 2020

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 26, ARMENPRESS. Political scientist Tevan Poghosyan says Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev, by violating another ceasefire agreement, are causing a direct blow to the image of the leaders of the three mediation sides – Russia, US and France.

“Erdogan’s and Aliyev’s policy is a direct blow to the image of Putin, Macron and Trump”, he told Armenpress.

Poghosyan said Turkey and Azerbaijan blow the image of the leaders of the three countries which mediated for the ceasefire in Nagorno Karabakh, showing that they are ignoring them. According to Poghosyan, this is a direct insult. The political scientist, however, doesn’t know how this time the adversary will justify its actions. “They will try to accuse us, but we must be able to prove the truth and move forward guided by our interests”, he said.

He highlighted the importance of working at all directions. “Everything starts from protecting our interests in the battlefield, in line with this wars are also taking place both in the diplomatic, information, political and economic fields, and these battles should be carried out also in these spheres”, the political scientist added.

On October 26, a new agreement by the US mediation on humanitarian ceasefire in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone was achieved, which was supposed to come into effect at 08:00. However, 45 minutes after the ceasefire entered into force, Azerbaijan launched artillery strikes at the Artsakh positions in the north-eastern direction. Another violation was recorded at 09:10, as the Azerbaijani side fired artillery shells, targeting the Artsakh positions in the south-eastern direction.

Turkey and Azerbaijan’s disregard for ceasefire will be serious blow to Trump ahead of election

1032789.jpg 15:08, 26 October, 2020

STEPANAKERT, OCTOBER 26, ARMENPRESS. Artsakh expects that the Armenia-Azerbaijan foreign ministerial meeting scheduled for October 29 in Geneva will create the chance for restarting the political process, Artsakh presidential advisor for foreign affairs Davit Babayan told ARMENPRESS.

Babayan stressed that although the issue of recognition of Artsakh’s independence isn’t an easily solvable one, one thing is for sure – Artsakh will never part of Azerbaijan.

Babayan said he is hopeful that the October 26 ceasefire will be maintained longer than the previous ones. “We see that all [OSCE MG] co-chairing countries are involved in this work, certainly Russia’s role is underscored. The tension, the military actions could lead to large scale regional clashes, which would transform into a global confrontation, that’s why everyone has contributed efforts to stop the war and resume the political process,” Babayan said.

He attached importance to the fact that the United States made mediation efforts in the process of establishing the third ceasefire, and President Donald Trump made special emphasis about the resolution.

According to Babayan, Turkey and Azerbaijan’s disregard to Trump’s statement would be a serious blow to the US President ahead of the presidential election.

Speaking about the moods of the people in Artsakh, Babayan said there is no panic or fear, and that the people are used to such situation. “There is disappointment because the world is not active, at the same time there is excitement from the behavior of our army, our people and our friendly countries,” he said.

Turkish lira drops to record low after US sanction threat, row with France

1032793.jpg 15:53, 26 October, 2020

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 26, ARMENPRESS. The Turkish currency slid further on October 26 to an all-time low against the U.S. dollar after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan dared the US to impose sanctions over his government’s decision to test its Russian-made air defense system and on the background of Ankara’s tensions with Paris and the EU after the insults to French President Emmanuel Macron.

The lira dropped another 1.3% to 8.06 against the dollar, a day after Erdogan dared Washington to impose sanctions after the NATO-member country tested the S-400 air defense system it purchased from Russia.

On October 25, under the mediation of the United States, a third ceasefire was concluded between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This was to take effect at 8 a.m. on October 26. But for the third time in a row, the truce was violated by Azerbaijan. Ilham Aliyev said that a ceasefire would only be possible if there was a withdrawal of Armenian troops from the Nagorno-Karabakh region. He also added that he would go through with this war.

Azerbaijani leadership have no plans to resume peaceful dialogue – President of Artsakh

1032824.jpg 18:54, 26 October, 2020

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 26, ARMENPRESS. President of Artsakh Arayik Harutyunyan records that against the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chair countries aimed at establishing humanitarian ceasefire in the region, the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan continues to ignore and violate all the agreements for that, ARMENPRESS reports Arayik Harutyunyan wrote on his Facebook page.

''Like the previous times, the agreement reached with the mediation of the USA and participation of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs, that reaffirmed the commitment of the sides to reach and observe a humanitarian ceasefire assumed on October 10 in Moscow and October 17 in Paris under the initiative of the Russian and French Presidents, today was again grossly violated by official Baku. Particularly after the midday, Azerbaijan resumed offensive operations with the use of artillery and rockets along the entire frontline.

All these confirm that Azerbaijan, enjoying the unconditional sponsorship of the Turkish authorities and mercenary-terrorists, has no plans to resume peaceful dialogue and overtly show that they will continue their military efforts for the final eviction of Armenians from Artsakh. Therefore, our national task is to struggle for the sake of the safe and dignified existence of the Armenians of Artsakh in their own Motherland. The security and rights of our people are not a subject for compromise'', Harutyunyan said.

Despite the new ceasefire that was supposed to take effect 08:00 October 26, the Azerbaijani forces launched renewed attacks. The Azeri military also bombarded a village, killing 1 civilian and wounding two others.

Pashinyan expects reaction from USA over ceasefire violation by Azerbaijan

1032825.jpg 19:14, 26 October, 2020

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 26, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan expects that the USA will react to the ceasefire violation by Azerbaijan, pointing out the side that has violated the ceasefire with adequate consequences, ARMENPRESS reports PM Pashinyan said on October 26 in a Facebook Live.

''Now it's already clear that this time again it was impossible to respect the ceasefire. All should know that the Armenian side made all efforts for the preservation of the ceasefire. The Defense Army was extremely restrained from morning, but the ceasefire failed to be implemented. We don't know what will be the reaction of the U.S. President to the failure of the ceasefire, but I had a telephone conversation after the midnight with Secretary of State Pompeo, and told him that this is the 1st ceasefire for them, but for us it's the 3rd and I can predict what will happen tomorrow. I said that with the utmost probability the ceasefire will not be respected and with the utmost probability Azerbaijan will blame Armenia'', Pashinyan said.

Pashinyan noted that he had asked the Secretary of State how they will clarify who has violated the ceasefire and what will be the consequences for the violation.

''It's not correct if I say what Mr. Pompeo answered. I hope U.S. officials will answer the question if they have clarified whose actions led to the violation of the ceasefire and if they have clarified, what will be the consequences for the violator'', the PM said.

Nikol Pashinyan added that he still hopes that the efforts of the three OSCE Minsk Group Co-chair countries, Russia, the USA, France, will give results.

''If Russia, the USA and France are unable to establish ceasefire in this conflict zone, it means we are living in entirely another world and we have to understand the logic of tis world. We still hope that the efforts of the three Presidents will give concrete results, but for now we have what we have'', Pashinyan said.

Despite the new ceasefire that was supposed to take effect 08:00 October 26, the Azerbaijani forces launched renewed attacks. The Azeri military also bombarded a village, killing 1 civilian and wounding two others.

Azeri Soldiers Wearing Armenian Uniforms

May Be Shot by Their Own Troops

By Harut Sassounian

Publisher, The California Courier

www.TheCaliforniaCourier.com

The U.S. Department of State announced on Oct.25, 2020 with great
fanfare the third attempted ceasefire in the Artsakh war in as many
weeks. The first two ceasefires were violated by Azerbaijan and Turkey
within minutes of going into effect. The new ceasefire announcement
was made after the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan flew to
Washington, D.C. and separately met with Secretary of State Mike
Pompeo on Oct. 23, 2020.

This latest “humanitarian ceasefire” went into effect on Monday, Oct.
26, at 8 a.m., local time. Unfortunately, the third ceasefire was also
violated within minutes by Azerbaijan and Turkey. This indicates that
Azerbaijan, Turkey and the Jihadist mercenaries from Syria have no
intention to stop the war until they cleanse Artsakh of its Armenian
population which is exactly what President Ilham Aliyev has repeatedly
announced. Armenia and Artsakh, with a population of a little over
three million, are fighting against the combined forces of Azerbaijan
and Turkey with a total population of over 90 million. This is a
battle of David versus Goliath. It also means that the powerful
Azerbaijani military, armed to its teeth with billions of dollars of
modern weaponry from Israel and Russia, is unable to fight its battles
without relying on the Turkish military and Islamist mercenaries. Even
with their combined forces, Azerbaijan and Turkey have been unable to
overrun Artsakh after a month-long battle!

In recent weeks, Pres. Trump has mentioned Armenians three times in
his speeches during campaign rallies in Nevada, Ohio and New
Hampshire. He made complimentary statements about Armenians, but words
are meaningless unless they are followed up with action. All Trump has
to do is pick up the phone and call his buddy Erdogan and tell him to
stop supporting Azerbaijan and withdraw the terrorists it recruited
and transferred to Azerbaijan. Instead, Trump has done what is in his
personal interest which primarily includes getting reelected on Nov. 3
by appealing to Armenian-American voters.

Besides military action, there are other fronts in which Armenians and
Azeris are battling each other. In the United States, several
resolutions have been submitted to the House of Representatives and
the Senate to recognize the independence of Artsakh and ban the sale
of weapons to Azerbaijan and Turkey. Similar steps have been taken by
Armenian communities in Canada, France and Australia, among others.
There have also been mass protests by Armenian communities in cities
throughout the U.S., Canada, Australia, the Middle East and Europe.

Armenian-Americans and elected officials pressured various lobbying
firms hired by Azerbaijan and Turkey to stop their propaganda efforts.
Last week, Mercury Public Affairs announced that it terminated its
lobbying contract with Turkey. Mercury has represented Turkey since
2013. In February of this year, Mercury signed a contract for $1
million to represent the Turkish Embassy. The Los Angeles City Council
had urged Mercury to end its contract with Turkey or it will no longer
do any business with the firm. A similar announcement was made by the
Los Angeles Community College District.

DLA Piper, another major lobbying firm, informed the U.S. Justice
Department that it no longer represents Azerbaijan Railways. The
Livingston Group also ended its lobbying for Azerbaijan on Oct. 13.
The BGR lobbying firm withdrew from representing Azerbaijan’s state
oil company SOCAR, according to AHVAL News.

Armenia on the other hand has never hired lobbying or public relations
firms. The rare example was the Armenian government signing a lobbying
contract with the law firm of Alston & Bird (associated with former
Senator Bob Dole) for $10,000 from Sept. 15 to Oct. 14, 2020. It is
not known whether that contract was extended. While hiring lobbying or
public relations firms is always helpful, the Armenian community is
not as dependent on them since they are politically active and rely on
their own organizations in Washington, such as the Armenian Assembly
of America and the Armenian National Committee of America. On the
other hand, Azerbaijan and Turkey are obligated to spend millions of
dollars for lobbying to try and misrepresent their dirty laundry as
clean.

Another aspect of the misinformation war is the one waged in the pages
of newspapers and social media in various countries. The Azeri
government pays a fortune each year to hired pens to besmirch Armenia
and glorify the dictatorship of Azerbaijan. The other front is the
social media. Whenever, a prominent American or European announces its
public stand in favor of Armenia, a horde of Azeris and their paid
agents hound those individuals and pressure them to retract their
statements.

There have been several reports in recent days that Azeri troops are
wearing the uniforms of Armenian soldiers apparently to create
confusion in the battlefield. In one such battle, it was discovered
that 40 Azeri soldiers’ bodies were found in Armenian uniform. In my
opinion, this practice, rather than confusing Armenians, will result
in Azeris shooting their own soldiers by mistaking them for Armenians.

The Armenian government should file a complaint with the International
Criminal Court (ICC) about the barbaric behavior of Azeri soldiers. In
one video, two Armenian prisoners of war are shot dead by Azeri
soldiers. In another, the head of a dead Armenian soldier is cut off
by Azeri soldiers. In a third gruesome video, Azeri soldiers are seen
skinning an Armenian soldier while he is still alive. These are clear
cases of war crimes. Azerbaijan should be condemned by the ICC and
bear responsibility for these inhuman actions. In addition, Azerbaijan
uses cluster bombs which are prohibited by international humanitarian
law. Moreover, Azerbaijan has fired on a daily basis thousands of
missiles on civilians throughout Artsakh cities and villages.
Azerbaijan has also destroyed hundreds of Armenian houses, schools and
churches. These are blatant war crimes. Azerbaijan should pay a heavy
price for its barbaric behavior.

On the positive side, 10 million Armenians worldwide have been united
as never before. Every Armenian realizes that this is an existential
struggle. Turkey and Azerbaijan intend to commit a second genocide
against Armenians. So far, Armenians have raised the unprecedented sum
of $150 million and millions more in humanitarian aid. The only thing
missing is for an Armenian billionaire to make a billion dollar
donation to support the survival of Armenia and Artsakh. After all, it
costs Armenia $30 million a day to meet its security needs.

Pakistani military helped Azeri troops in attack on Artsakh, says Azerbaijani serviceman

Pakistani military helped Azeri troops in attack on Artsakh, says Azerbaijani serviceman

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 27, ARMENPRESS. The Committee of Investigations of Armenia has released the video from the questioning of an Azerbaijani serviceman who was detained as a prisoner of war by the Artsakh military.

The Azerbaijani POW, Emin Bakhshaliyev, said that he feels fine and has no complaints from the conditions of his detention. He said he is given meals three times a day. “I am treated normally here, there is no violence or torture. I had been wounded in my left leg, every day my wound is being treated and the dressing is replaced,” he said.

Bakhshaliyev said that Azerbaijan declared mobilization either on September 3 or 5. “In the summer of this year, joint large-scale military exercises were held, after which a military formation of the Turkish Armed Forces stayed in Azerbaijan. I was also informed that at the time of starting the war servicemen from Pakistan were to help us. The military specialists who arrived from Turkey held combat readiness trainings with our platoon for 3-5 days, the purpose of which was to obtain mountainous terrain combat skills. The military officers who came from Turkey didn’t train only us, I also happened to see that these Turkish military officers were training other units as well. These combat readiness trainings were held for a total of 10-15 days with the entire personnel of our military base. When the Turks visited our military base they told us to get ready for combat readiness trainings in the mountains. We held combat readiness trainings in the mountains with different units, and we were told to get ready for war, because soon military actions would start, that we have to launch an attack on our only enemy, at the direction of the Armenian positions,” the Azerbaijani serviceman said.

Bakhshaliyev said the Turkish officers were wearing Turkish military uniforms, but without rank shoulder marks. “We addressed them neither by their names nor surnames. We simply addressed them as commander,” he said.

He said that on September 20-21, 2020 they left their military base with their battalion and moved towards Gyulistan on board Kamaz and Ural vehicles. “My direct superior commander, Ahmad Hanifayev, told us that the enemy, meaning the Armenian positions, are empty, there will be 5 or 7 servicemen, and ordered us to capture and take positions in the Armenians’ combat positions. The order was – the sooner we capture the better,” Bakhshaliyev said.

Bakhshaliyev said Azerbaijan bought missile systems and UAVs from Israel and Turkey. “The UAVs were controlled from the rear, they were either Turkish or Israeli produced, I didn’t see who exactly controlled them, but we didn’t have anything to do with their control,” he said.

He said the Azeri military has deployed missile-artillery systems in the yards of residential homes behind dense trees. Bakhshaliyev said that despite the fact that civilians are living in those homes, the Azeri military fired the systems during the military actions.
