"The owner of the restaurant had a party for a funeral gathering and after the party was dismissed [there were] about six people left in the restaurant and this whole mayhem began," said Arie Grinstein, who owns the property. "I was called by the police to get to my home because they were thinking that maybe people were hiding at my house, which is in the back of the restaurant. And they checked it out, nobody was there, everything was clear."

 

No arrests have been made. There were reports that Armenian gangsters may have been responsible for the shooting, but police said they cannot confirm it was gang-related.

5800 block of Lexington Ave. Karine Hakobyan, a 38-year-old white woman, was fatally shot Friday, March 26, in the 5800 block of Lexington Avenue in Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

 

On Friday night, Hakoybyan's 14-year-old daughter came home to an empty apartment. She got worried when her mother didn't come home from work, so the girl walked down to the carport looking for her.

 

There, she found her mother's body slumped in her Honda CRV with a gunshot wound to the back of the head.

 

Eighteen months earlier, the same daughter arrived home from school and discovered her father and 8-year-old sister shot to death inside the family's Hollywood apartment.

 

On Monday, a team of Los Angeles police detectives were trying to piece together the three killings, which occurred a few blocks from each other in Hollywood's Little Armenia district.

 

Detectives believe the killings are connected but declined to provide more details.

Are some of us just finding out that the streets in Glendale are not paved with gold? In America shovels are used to dig dirt and shovel snow with blood and sweat. Neither are cops in Glendale like vostikans in Gavar.

Please allow me to tell this anecdote (actually a real story) again.

An Armenian family of New England was traveling packed in their station wagon, the patriarch of the family, with a big handle bar moustache was seated in the back. The State Trooper stops them for whatever traffic infraction. License? Registration? The patriarch in the backseat says- “Սա շունին մի ոսկոր նետէ եւ ազատինք”: At this pint the trooper extends his neck and says in Armenian, surprise, surprise, “Այս «շունը » ոսկոր չի կրծեր**”

** In Armenian slang “կրծոն, կրզոն/doggy bone” means bribe. While in America bribe may be a punishable felony, in many other places it is a way of life.

Like Azat says above, it may take several generations to realize that in America “crime does not pay”.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD -- A gun dealer has been identifed as the man who opened fire inside a North Hollywood restaurant, killing 4 people and wounding 2 others.

 

Both the LAPD and the FBI are searching for 28-Nerses Arthur Galstyan.

 

He is wanted for murder and federal weapons violations.

 

Los Angeles police say Nerses Arthur Galstyan was at the Hot Spot Cafe April 3rd when he started arguing with several men. The argument then escalated into gunfire.

 

Galstyan allegedly shot six people. 3 died inside the restaurant, a fourth died later at a hospital.

 

Two other victims were also hospitalized. The are both expected to survive.

According to Los Angeles police, Galstyan was at the Valley Village restaurant attending a party in memory of an acquaintance who had died in an accident a year earlier.

 

During that celebration, Galstyan "became involved in a dispute with several men at the celebration and in anger fired multiple rounds, hitting and killing four of them,'' Beck said.

 

Three men died at the cafe, and a fourth died at a hospital. Two other people were injured, but survived.

 

The dead men were identified by Los Angeles police as Harut Baburyan, 28, Sarkis Karadjian, 26, Vardan Tofalyan, 31, and Hayk Yegnanyan, 25.

 

Police said Galstyan was seen on surveillance video inside the restaurant.

 

"This was a crime among people who knew each other,'' said L.A. City Councilman Paul Krekorian, who represents Valley Village.

 

Search warrants were served today on locations linked to the suspect in North Hollywood and Glendale, said Kevin McClure, captain of the LAPD's Robbery-Homicide division.

 

McClure said police had "a great deal of physical evidence'' linking Galstyan to the murders and believe he is still in the area and is being assisted to avoid capture.

 

Police initially said the victims appeared to have been targeted and that the shooting may have been related to Armenian gangs, but they said today the shooting was apparently just a dispute that erupted at a party.

 

Police declined to comment on whether Galstyan had a criminal record or links to gangs or organized crime.

 

McClure said no state charges had yet been filed in the case, but Galstyan was indicted this morning by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles on weapons charges.

 

The three-count indictment — the result of an ongoing federal investigation — charges him with conspiracy, engaging in the business of dealing in firearms without a license and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, said U.S. Attorney Andre Birotte.

 

According to the indictment, Galstyan allegedly met with a confidential informant on Sept. 2 and sold two .223-caliber semiautomatic rifles with obliterated serial numbers, along with two high-capacity magazines, for $3,600.

 

Galstyan also allegedly told the informant he could sell HK rifles with 8-inch barrels for $3,000 each, and that he routinely had AK weapons for sale, according to the indictment.

 

Each of the three counts carries a five-year federal prison sentence, Birotte said.

 

Galstyan remained at large and police said he should be considered "armed and very dangerous.''

Alleged gunman in L.A. mass shooting held in Seattle

 

April 21, 2010 | A man wanted in connection with the slaying of four people in a Valley Village restaurant has been captured by federal authorities in the Seattle area.

 

Nerses Arthur Galstyan, 28, and his brother Samuel Galstyan were taken into custody Tuesday evening in the suburb of Kenmore, law enforcement sources told The Times. The men are expected to be returned as early as Wednesday to the Los Angeles area.

 

Nerses Arthur Galstyan is suspected in the April 3 shootings. Investigators believe a sudden outburst of anger was behind the attack against six acquaintances at the Hot Spot Mediterranean Restaurant on Riverside Drive in Valley Village.

 

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, have not said what role, if any, his brother played in the incident.

4 men arrested for credit card fraud

Police in San Luis Obispo have arrested four men from Southern California in

connection with a major case of credit card fraud. The men had made multiple

purchases with fake credit cards in Santa Maria, San Luis Obispo and Arroyo

Grande. The men, Hamlet Ramazyan, 23, of Glendale, Hakob Ghazarya, 26, of

Glendale, Hakob Vardanyan, 29, of Glendale, and Khachik Mkrtchyan, 26, of

North Hollyood, were arrested on charges of burglary, possession of stolen

property and fraudulent use of access cards or access card information.

 

The men were arrested at the Home Depot at 1550 Froom Ranch in San Luis

Obispo on Thursday after police responded to calls of a suspicious person

using multiple credit cards for large purchases in a variety of stores. The

investigation quickly revealed that the same suspects made numerous

purchases in Santa Maria, Arroyo Grande and San Luis Obispo. Business

representatives provided vehicle descriptions and suspect descriptions. A

large amount of retail property was recovered from the vehicles along with

numerous counterfeit credit cards and counterfeit indentification.

 

The men were booked at the San Luis Obispo County Jail with bail set at

$20,000. The investigation is continuing and the suspects are believed to be

part of an orchestrated fraudulent credit card operation.
