• On September 24 Serzh Sargsyan had a series of meetings on the sidelines of the 63rd UN General Assembly in New York. During his meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice the sides discussed a wide range of issues concerning U.S.-Armenia relations and regional developments.

   

  Serzh Sargsyan expressed gratitude to the U.S. government for the show of support to Armenia. In response the Secretary of State noted that Armenia is progressing in political reforms and that serves as a good basis for further contributions. The sides touched upon the Nagorno-Artsax peace settlement process in the format of the OSCE Minsk Group. Serzh Sargsyan reaffirmed Armenia’s readiness to peacefully solve the Nagorno-Artsax conflict through negotiations. Condoleezza Rice stressed the importance of the peaceful solution to the Artsax conflict and underlined that the peaceful settlement will contribute to the establishment of peace and cooperation in the region. Rice congratulated Sargsyan for his initiative aimed at regulating ties with Turkey and expressed hope that the visit of the Turkish president to Armenia and the recent meetings of Armenian and Turkish officials will set grounds for future cooperation.

   

  Before his meeting with Condoleezza Rice, Serzh Sargsyan had a meeting with Dutch premier Yan Peter Balkenende during which the premier touched upon the recent discussions regarding Armenian Genocide in the Dutch parliament.

   

  Serzh Sargsyan also met with the OSCE Minsk Group copresidents. The sides discussed the Nagorno-Artsax peace settlement, as well as issues concerning the possibility of the next meeting of the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

   

  In his meeting with president of Serbia Boris Tadich, the sides mentioned the many common historical-cultural ties between Armenians and Serbs, the cordial ties between the peoples of both countries and touched upon the Nagorno-Artsax peace process. After that, Serzh Sargsyan had a meeting with Latvian president Valdis Zatlers. The presidents expressed content with the level of bilateral relations and underlined the importance of realizing direct flights between the capitals of both countries.

Currently in New York, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan met with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to discuss a wide scope of issues referring to the Armenia-U.S. relations and regional developments, the RA leader’s press office told PanARMENIAN.Net. President Sargsyan thanked the U.S. government for the assistance it renders to Armenia. In response, Ms. Rice noted the progress in political reforms carried out in Armenia and said that it can encourage further U.S. assistance. Touching on the process of the Nagorno Artsax conflict settlement, the Armenian leader reiterated Yerevan’s readiness to resolve the problem through peaceful talks. For her part, Secretary Rice said that peaceful resolution of the conflict would facilitate regional peace and cooperation. We also welcomed the Mr Sargsyan’s initiative to establish relations with Turkey and voiced hope that Gul’s visit to Yerevan will underlie future cooperation.

RICE: WE WANT TO BE A GOOD PARTNER FOR ARMENIA

 

We want to be a good partner for Armenia, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said before а meeting with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan. She welcomed the progress Armenia fixed in ‘carrying out healing reforms’. “We believe that you have made some good steps to address this, and so I’m here to build on that and to move forward,” she said, the U.S. State Department’s press office told PanARMENIAN.Net. For his part, President Sargsyan thanked the U.S. Government for all the assistance it has rendered to the Republic of Armenia, both financial assistance and non-financial.

SARGSYAN, OSCE MG DISCUSS POSSIBILITY OF PRESIDENTIAL MEETING

 

Currently in New York, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan met with Co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group to discuss the Nagorno Artsax conflict settlement process and a possibility of a regular meeting between the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan. OSCE CiO’s personal representative, Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk also partook in the discussions, the RA leader’s press office reported. The 63rd session of the UN General Assembly opened in New York on September 16 and will last till October 1
