NEW ACCELERATOR TO BE CONSTRUCTED IN YEREVAN

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 13, ARMENPRESS:

The fourth session of Synchrotron Light for Experimental Science

and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME) took place in Yerevan

November 9-10.

According to Armenian foreign ministry, the aim of the cooperation

is to set up a relevant center for Middle East, Persian Gulf and

South Caucasian countries.

During the previous session Armenia expressed its desire to have

the center in Armenia on the basis of Yerevan Physics Institute.

It is worth mentioning that none of the member-countries has

appropriate substructures as the Yerevan Physics Institute.

Taking into account that the program was conceived as an incentive

to promote peace processes in the Middle East, it was proposed to

expand the frames of scientific cooperation by establishing a

center in Jordan with a small accelerator with 1 GeV energy

capacity, granted by Germany.

A new and more powerful accelerator with 2 or 3 GeV energy capacity

will be constructed in Yerevan.
