THANK YOU VERY MUCH ACHOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you have all the poems of Vahan Tekeyan, I have been so surprised to see that there was no poems of Vahan Tekeyan on this website, as we have many poems translated in French. I have also translated some, but I wanted to translate this one, as

some one on armenews.forum wrote that it was the best.

 

I will register the others too. Please don't erase them. I will come back soon. I've had a great problem with my computer these days.

--reply hello dear Arpa, I had not read this explanation. I did not know this meaning, I thought my name means: truth, because the expresion : isgabes, truly.

But I asked a member of our French forum who has been in Vienna with the Mekhitarists, he told me that Isguhi was an attribute of the mother of God. as many

other names: yeranuhi, and so on. "dalar" is plesant for me too.

Dear Arpa I knew Ar was the sun that was worshipt in ancient times. So, it is a river too, I liked your description of the sun on the river.

My mother's name was "Araxi" I know Arax is a river, she always talked of the river Arax not far from Adabazar, they used to go to picnic there.

And my uncle, his brother, was called "Arsham" may be there is a sun in his name

And my aunt' name : Sirarpi - she is still living, she was born in 1923.

 

It is interesting to study the names of the Armenians.

But fragile reeds, or mighty oaks thick ,

**Why do I insist on the English word -reckoning?

To me “balance sheet” is too dry and un-lyrical. An injustice to Vahan’s lyricism.

Vahan was not a Հաշուապահ-CPA-(Certified Public Accountant).

Louise’ mention of “Jugement” is in order. See “day of judgment ” below .

See what the dictionary says;

1 : the act or an instance of reckoning: as a : account, bill b : computation c : calculation of a ship's position

2 : a settling of accounts **

3 : a summing up .

**”Day of Reckoning” is an allegory of “Day of Judgment”. The day when we all will stand at God;s presence to be judged. Absolved or condemned.

Edmond Azadian signs books.

 

YEREVAN - During his last visit to Armenia, Edmond Azadian, vice

president of the Tekeyan Cultural Association, Inc., presented to the

public at Tekeyan Center his compiled, edited and annotated book of

selected poems by Vahan Tekeyan in Armenian.

 

Present at the event were Armenia's Culture Minister Hasmik Poghosian,

President of the Armenian Academy of Sciences Radik Mardisrosian,

Dean of Yerevan State University Aram Simonian, Dean of Pedagogical

Institute of Armenia Rouben Mirzakhanian and Azg daily editor Hagop

Avedikian. Samvel Muratian pre- sented Vahan Tekeyan's poems in the

con- text of the period he lived, adding that the poems are as pointed

now as they were a century ago, when they were written.

 

In his speech, Azadian said that the book is going to be published

in English this fall, in Detroit, translated by Gerald Papasian and

John Papazian.

 

During the presentation, Nora Azadian, the only person in the hall

who had met Vahan Tekeyan in Egypt, recited two of his poems, the

translated names of which are "The Armenian Soul" and "My Only One."

 

Avedikian thanked the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation of Portugal

and its Armenian Department Director Zaven Yegavian for funding the

publication of the book.
